And the 260 most likely consumes more power than the 5870 but the 5870 does tend to run a little warm.

This leads me to believe that a proper TIM application will drop temps.

The 5870 uses GDDR5 which runs hotter than the GDDR3. So although the core may be cooler, the ram is pushing the overall temp higher

At least those are my thoughts

I just can't wait until Monday so I can do my own testing.

Looking forward to your results Sleey0. Did you ever get a 920xm for it? I am just curious to see how far the GPU can be pushed. Moo got one of these cards up to 1000 Hz core if I remember correctly

The M15x cooling is similar to the 8690 but inferior to the 8760 so I wouldn't expect similar overclocks as the 17" Sager. Probably a bit better than the G73 though.

    No 920.

Was going to do a trade - my SSD + cash for the 920 but alitunay backed out.

It doesn't matter because I didn't really want the 920. It would be more for bragging rights than anything else as I am quite happy with the i7-620.

    M15x @ 900p + 5870 is probably very close in performance to a xfire 4870 @ 1200p.

When's DELL/AW going to release the 5870 configuration themselves?

I'm watching this thread for some time now and makes me want to get a M15x more and more over a M17x because of the single 5870 possibility. If only it came with 2 HDD's... So keep up the good work and hope we'll see more proud and happy DIY5870-M15x owners!

I can't choose 16xAA in Furmark either. 8x is the max. Maybe its a driver issue?

Edit: NM. Which drivers? The CCC should let you go as high as 32x depending on the filter.

I'm idle at 60-61C now. I ran 3dmark vantage and max temp is 81C. BBF2 and Batman max temperature of 84C. I have to reapply thermal paste couple time to get that temperature. The first time I apply the paste I was idling at 69C like you. I'm hope this temperature is not consider dangerous for this card.

P.S. We don't have CCC so can't change AA from there.

Joker says that 80s for gaming and benching is a good temp for this card. It runs hotter than typical GDDR3 cards. Thats good to hear, I think with MX-3 instead of AS5 I will be at good temps.

I just don't see me needing the 920 at all as I don't really bench like some of you guys. lol

Anyone know if I can use ATITOOL to scan for artifact when i overclock this card. I did that with my gtx 260m so I was wondering if it would work with the 5870 too. If not what can I do to make sure that the overclock is stable?
