Your CPU score would be higher if you didn't use eleet. It just ends up slowing your CPU down because the Intel TDP limiter kicks in.

Is there any tentative release date for an M15x with an ATI 5870?
-
Ati tray tools gave me a bsod just now
-
-
Thanks for the info. Was planning to buy an M15x but I guess I should wait.
-
Well, take care guys. I'm done with the M15x + 5870 experiment My M15x is going back to Dell and the 5870 is on sale in the marketplace.

So in the end it cost you more money when you came here.
-
Because if you're comparing both at 1080p vs 1200p, the M17x w/dual 4870s is quite a bit faster in games. The 900p ones help close that gap a bit but are still slower. Then there's the 17" RGB LED display + future 5870 crossfire upgrade path and dual hard drives. -

Made me whitebook so inept....got the 2nd gpu, than a qx9300, than an M17x lol -
Don't forget the memory upgrade, the SSD upgrade.....

Indeed lol
-
Indeed. I thought an M15x with a 5870 would do it for me, but without the RGB LED, 2 hard drive spaces, and full size keyboard I really couldn't call it a true desktop replacement.
Oh well, I had fun. Haha.
EDIT: oops I didn't even see Joker's post above. He took the words right out of me mouth.

Soy
What happened to make you want to sell it?
It's funny because I am REALLY enjoying the M15x this time around. Seems all the bugs and kinks have been worked out since it's release.
Nothing but awesomeness over here
EDIT: I see. The screen is better than any 15" I have seen so I can't really complain. And I don't really need 2 HDD's or SLI/CF so the M15x is pretty much perfect for my needs and I am enjoying it MUCH more than the W870, for sure. -
Have you put in your 5870 yet?
-
I had to go take the MS 70-680 exam for school and missed the USPS guy by like 15 minutes
So now I have to wait until tomorrow. Crap!! -
-
Hehe, Sleey, at least now you can successfully configure W7
-

Don't take that Sleey0, go to the post office and get it in person!
This is too important to leave to the USPS! -
Well, it says on the ticket that I can't pick it up until 4/20 (awesome date BTW) at 0830.
I was going to try and hunt the delivery guy down but not sure that is a good idea or not lol.
Whatever. It will just have to wait 1 more day -
BUT, it wasn't that easy of a test either, believe it or not. Some of the wording on the questions were strange. -
-
Wording is what made me hate all the MCSE/T/etc related tests.
Nice score, BTW! -
lol...it's been 11 years since I've taken an MCSE type test, I'm getting old.
-
I can be a little slow sometimes so please do explain lol. -
Maybe he's referring to your avatar and the lack of feet? -
^^
lol
The only thing I could think of was that weird order that showed up in my Dell account, which was for a few sets of rubber feet? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Or it was the 420 reference maybe
-
sounds like it is what scook said
-
Is there any chance the M15x could receive an RGB LED screen in the future? -
I don't know why Dell didn't do an M16x to begin with, really.
The chassis is plenty big for it and would be more appropriate with a 16" screen, IMO.
Plus they could have offered the SXPS 16's RGBLED even though I wasn't a big fan of it. -
Man guys I'm really contemplating making the swap to a 5870, I've been racking my brain the past couple of nights.
I'm currently running a 240m and my temps are great (42c idle, 58c max load) and I enjoy the nice cool keyboard under long gaming sessions of bad company 2 and modern warfare 2.
How bad is the heat on the 5870 (heard 61c idle, 85-90c max load), much hotter of course. But curious how the m15x design handles that heat (mainly not making a hot keyboard. Maybe some of the 260m owners can reference their temps compared to the 5870 and how that effecting noticable heat from a gaming/use perspective on the top of the laptop (keyboard/track pad surface).
Thanks guys -
WOW, this thread grew like crazy!
I haven't checked all the pages since i'm a little low on time at the moment. I'm curious if anyone that has installed the 5870 only used the pads from the 260m or do we need extra pads? If you only used the 260m pads, how are your temps? -
My temps reached up to mid 80's while gaming, and I felt nothing on the keyboard or trackpad surface. The bottom was pretty hot though.
-
Another question on the memory what pads doese one need in addition to the stock 240/260m pads. Anybody have good suggestions on the best pads to use on it to ensure maximum heat transfer . -
I believe ethan is the only one who used pads from the clevo heatsink. Everyone else is using just 260M thermal pads. The thermal paste you choose should make a big difference.

^^^^ Hey that's GREAT!
-
I would think the M15x's cooling system is adequate enough for the 5870.
Anything above 85C is too hot, though so that is my own limit that I set. I am hoping that MX-3 and brand new thermal pads should be sufficient. -
Hmmmm
Hit 90C within 3 minutes of furmark.
After looking at the heatsink the M15x currently uses, I think it might be slightly inadequate for the 5870. I will put it through a nice, long gaming session and see how it fares as furmark isn't very realistic as it stresses the crap out of the GPU (way more than any game would).
I wonder if Dell is working on a new heatsink for the 5870 and that is why they haven't released it yet.
Just a thought..... -
Some of the other guys have stabilized their max temps around 80ish. Might want to check out what they did. -
Were they using furmark hot as hell edition?
I did a pretty thorough cleaning and past job, so it should be fine. Temps don't bother me like some (quad comes to mind lol). Even if it hits mid 80's during gaming I don't really care -
Your gaming temps definitely will be lower than Furmark.
-
Congrats on the new toy, Sleey!
Update your sig!
How hot does the core get comparing to the mem IO? Could you post a screenie?
