Only the Dell 6970 has been tested right?

I wonder if the Clevo 6970 will be similar to the Clevo 5870 in the sense that it doesn't have as much support / OCing ability as the Dell one.

... I hope it works perfectly... :D Mine is on the way. I'll let you know. Haha, just bought the 5850 from you (great card!!) and now I'm already about to tinker around with something new, lol.

Edit: Well, I'm not 100% sure whether it's really a clevo card as mxm-upgrade said they don't discuss the sources of their cards... but they indirectly told me that it's not a Dell card so... what else is the option? Lol.

The only thing I want to know is whether the 920xm and 6970m can be run together with the 920 overclocked without spontaneous combustion.

I have trouble with my 460m and 920xm when both overclocked. It has to be either or for me so I play games with the 920xm at stock. That being said, my GPU is nvidia and not as efficient as the ATi's.

So, is inserting 6970 different from inserting, let's say, 460m or 5850/5870?

Basically it's the same. all you need to do is use the "x" bracket form the original card, assuming the new card doesn't have one.

Ok, I just received my 6970m from MXM-upgrade per DHL and put it in my system. The card fits perfectly to the heatsink, but unfortunately that's more or less all so far. :( Well, the system boots and Windows runs, but I can't install the drivers. It always says something like "hardware not compatible".

Another thing is that the fans run all the time at almost full speed (both, GPU and CPU) even though the card doesn't get hot at all (well, how should it without drivers... max is about 40°C atm.)

What bugs me is that GPU-Z says it has 480 shaders (should be 960) I'm not sure whether this is because I haven't installed any drivers, but I don't think so.

Here's a screenshot with GPU-Z and HWinfo32 so you can see what I mean:

When did you order it? Man don't said because it isn't a Dell card that why it didn't work. You might have to manually install the driver.

Well, the driver is not the only thing that bothers me... the fans are annoying as well.

I ordered it on the 1st of April, then I didn't hear from MXM-upgrade anymore until I decided to write them last Thursday when I remember correctly. Then they shipped the card on Thursday evening.

No, but maybe I'm doing it wrong...
The file you download from AMD will automatically download the driver, so there aren't really driver files around. I downloaded the driver from the M17x r3 as well... with this it lets me choose what to install, but it won't really install anything even though it says "completed" after a few moments.

I tried to do it with the device manager, but no succes... any advice?

The latest from the AMD site (11.3), as well as the M17x r3 drivers.

Edit: 11.4 preview doesn't work either... it seems to install and then says "completed" but it doesn't ask to restart the system, and restarting doesn't change anything.

What do you think about the shader count? Is this because there's no driver? I'm confused by this.

Back then with the 5870m we had to manually install the driver in the device manager to get it to work. Do you guy think it because it not a Dell card?

    1. Make sure all old ATI drivers are removed. (use whatever tool you want)
    2. Install 11.4 (preview or whatever)
    3. Once complete go into the device mgr and select display device.
    4. Update driver and browse to the location of the x64 driver for 6970m.
    5. Choose it manually and let it install and see if that works.

You might try these. They are a later iteration of the Cat 11.4 Early Preview set (March 23 (these) v. March 7 (the official release)). They cleaned up several items, including some CCC installation issues and 6970 card issues and are generally regarded as the current best driver set. Needs a clean/swept install. No guarantees, but they're working well for some others.

This might be stupid, but remember that your card is now listed under HD 6xxx series and not the 5xxx you are used to select.

This worked! Great!! It didn't correctly recognize the screen first (when I rebooted the resolution was a crazy 4:3 and the dual display setting) but once I set it to 1080p it works.

But there's still the fan blowing all the time, I guess I can't change this (except manually with HWinfo32, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for). Must be an issue with the vbios probably.

In addition to this, the card is always at 3D clock (unlike inaps 470m :D)...

I just played a couple of minutes CoD BO at highest settings, single player.... the vietnam mission. Nice fps, max was about 95, lowest 65 or so, I didn't make a logfile I just wanted to test it for a couple of minutes, mainly to see the temps. Max was 93°C on the mem and 86°C on the shader, according to HWinfo32.

Hmm... take a look at the screenshot. May be an issue with my TV, I'm not 100% sure. I have always used the stereo and mic jacks, and I haven't a receiver to test it... maybe I can test it at the setup from a friend of mine...

I'll try the Dell HDMI audio drivers first though.

    Picture works perfectly through displayport.

Edit: Same with the Dell HDMI/DP audio drivers installed...

glad you got it working, i think this will be the same as the clevo 5870 always on 3d clocks. have you tried underclocking with trixx yet? also on the dell card there is a big thermal pad covering half of the card on the underside, not sure if that would help with tempt or not, but worth mentioning.

No, but overclocking :D lol... couldn't resist... but it's only a slight OC.

I guess underclocking will work as well, I'm going to try it now.

Edit: Yep, according to GPU-Z it does work, like expected, it's 200/200 now.

BTW: I realised that the fan does not speed up to full speed... it just stays at a high speed even uder 100% load... so this probably added some degrees when I played a while. There's no thermal pad on the backside... and the metal bezel or however this is called on the back (you know what I mean) doesn't fit perfectly... (I had to take mine from the 260m... the holes fit perfectly, but the rest not, I will post some pics later which hopefully explain this) It's a bit improvised atm.

Ok, I don't know how to recognize a clevo card... As I mentioned somewhere already, the guy at MXM-upgrade said he does not discuss the origins of his cards... My guess was that it would be a clevo card as it is not a Dell card (that's the only thing he confirmed).
So your information is really appreciated, thanks!

Sapphire is ATI's main manufacturing/sales partner, estimated to be responsible for 50-60% of ATI graphics card sales. PC Partner is a huge private Chinese contract manufacturing company which owns Sapphire, among other things. It looks like your ATI 6970m is the genuine article.
