Whoa, nice work!
I vote sticky!
I also vote that we should keep this thread driver related. No point in cluttering it with hardware related problems.
Oh yeah, and one more thing. I think it would be smart to post the md5's for at least the bios files. -
Yeah sure, I'll get to it once I have the time. At the moment, I'm kind of running late for class so I'll do it once I get home.
-
Double post.
MD5 hashes are now posted for all versions of the BIOS. Having this should allow you to check the integrity of the file as soon as you download it. If you know how to use it, then great. If not, just proceed downloading it normally. -
bump! 'cause oceanus deserves it. (and this should be stickied)
-
Update -
The [m15x] Complete Driver and Software Bundle + Extras (for Windows XP, Vista, and Vista x64) file will be down for approximately 5 hours. A file has been appended to the driver bundle and the bundle itself will need to be re-uploaded to the server. The file should be back up sometime between 5 and 6PM PST. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Edit: The file is now back up. A MD5 hash has been provided for it as well. -
ps: what is MD stuff? -
MD5 is a cryptographic hash widely used for checking the integrity of files. I won't get much into it now (since it's 6:07AM and I'm fairly tired) but if the file is corrupted or changed for any reason, the MD5 hash changes. If the original hash does not match the hash contained in the file itself, it means that either your file is corrupted, compromised, or has been changed.
If you use a download accelerator (such as DownThemAll), you could have it check the integrity of the file by having it compare the hashes (the original hash provided by the file author and the hash contained in the file).
-
oceanus, +rep for the work you put in for the community.
-
Double posting to split the method above from the second method of verifying the file using MD5.
Alternatively, you could also verify files with the MD5 hash using MD5summer, which you can download here. To verify files using MD5summer, follow the steps below.

Triple posting to avoid clutter.
Update -
I've released an XP Driver and Software bundle for those who would prefer not to download the Complete Driver and Software Bundle. This bundle is slightly smaller (approximately 500MB smaller) than the former and has been compacted to fit the needs of those using XP on their m15x. You can find the bundles by clicking here.
Unfortunately, a bundle for Vista and Vista x64 will not be released until sometime next week-- sorry Vista users!
Well! Time for bed. I'm exhausted.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
i seriously vote for sticky here...
Oceanus has been extremely helpful in requests i have made on a personal level....
you deserve a sticky and more rep points than one can give...
thx for all the hard work.
ps: thx for the explanation in the previous posts, it helps me understand now. -
I hope you don't mind if I ask, but were you able to get the CD? Did it arrive yet?
-
has not arrived as of yet (today being 15 Feb 2009). It takes time for stuff to get here....
-
Yeah. The shipping was only $2 too. I would have assumed it'd arrive sooner but I suppose that's what you get when you pay for normal USPS shipping, huh.
-
that and the fact of location and frequency of delivery.
-
thx for adding the MD5's Oceanus.
I'd rep you if I could but I need to spread it around some more first apparently.
Way cool that you are making driver packages. Can't wait for the Vistx64 one to arrive. -
I just noticed that I get diferent temperature readings between ThermoFan (80C) and RivaTuner (92 C). These are the max temperatures for each software at the time the fans kick into high speed. Which one is more accurate ? And if it is Riva Tuner, what can I do to reduce the temp ? I have the X30 BIOS now would the X32 help ?
-
x36 i believe is the most current and has been updated to run the fans more frequent and longer.
cant help you on the other aside from that i have read on postings in the forums that each program takes the readings at different locations, thus the difference in results. (but i could be completely off my rocker too)
-
I was wondering if the BIOS updates only help with the CPU or if the GPU is affected too. I would prefer using the x32 over the x36 cos it seemes to be the most stable and reduces keyboard lag as well which I have been suffering from recently.
Can anyone comment on the disparity between temp readings ? -
the x36 is for the gpu and cpu. there is a link here somewhere (i shall attempt to locate soon) for the keyboard fix.
link: roundtable by Oceanus
also if you read thru, Oceanus suggests to use thermofan. for what it is worth, if you read from the begining of this thread, you will find a vast amount of links and info. this thread is geared more for drivers and a few questions vice debating one temp reading over another. but i digress.
if you follow the link it will have a section there for m15x keyboard lag fix. i have applied this to my unit and honestly have had no issues since.

Updates:
- Improved accessibility. See picture below.
- <del>The Vista x32 Driver and Software Bundle + Extras is currently being uploaded. You can expect to see it up within approximately 4 hours. (Around 1:00AM PST on Tuesday, February 17th)</del>
Edit: I just realized I added a few too many files accidentally into the XP and the Vista bundle. The XP and the Vista bundle contains the actual md5 checksum files which will need to be taken out to avoid confusion. Once these files are taken out, a new md5 hash will be provided. I'll be working on correcting this issue some time later today and Wednesday. In the meantime, you may still download the XP bundle if you wish. I have not changed anything to it yet and will not be taking it down until once the revised version is completed.
If anyone wishes to download the unrevised (unfixed) version of the Vista bundle, please PM me for a link. -
hey Oceanus
you might want to add findvikas' script for switching between IGP and dedicated GPU, since some people have problems with the OSD when they try to do this with Fn+F7.

Edit: Ahh. Unforeseen events have come up between the time I posted this and when I got home. Sorry guys, I'll have it up soon. I've just been unbelievably busy lately. -
Hi, I mentioned earlier that my AlienSense wasnt working and my webcam driver update wouldnt show any signs of being installed.
Now, there is an aliensense icon (green eye) in the notifications area and when I mouseover, it says "Desktop for Mortis (Inactive Mode). Program update recieved. Please reboot your computer to activate the update.
Rebooting does nothing. AlienSense still does not work from the command center or by right clicking the icon and choosing the configure AlienSense option.
Can anyone shed some light on the subject ? -
Vista x32 Driver and Software + Extras bundle is up ( finally). Once I have the Vista x64 Driver and Software + Extras bundle up, I'm planning on working on compiling much smaller (driver-only) bundles.

Yeah the icon is still here after a couple of restarts. I forgot to mention that I installed the older version of the new CC as you told me to earlier.
-
When you start up the Command Center and try to adjust AlienSense, does it give you any error codes?

I looked into the issue you had before when you had the other version of 1028 installed.
Mortis said:Tried what you suggested but no cigar. Nothing shows up under AlienSense and the webcam driver still doesnt install. When I run it and click on Setup, it just exits and thats it. And now whenever I bot up , it says FAEnrollWiz stoped working or something like that. And now when I select ALienFX, I get the folowing mesage :Click to expand...
If you're able to get around this and enroll yourself (at least get FAEnrollWiz) working, you could possibly get AlienSense to work.

No no what i meant was, it still doesnt do anything except now with the older new cc, it doesnt give me the FAEnrollWiz error
Oh and when i try to run FAEnroll Wiz manually (even as admin) it says that it has stopped working. -
Weird. Hmm, I might have to take a look into this. You're using Windows Vista x32, right?
-
Yes Im using vista home premium 32 bit
-
It's going to be awhile before I get a chance to replicate the issue but basically, what I'll do is install Vista Home Premium x32 and see if I can work my way into getting the same problem you have. I'll get back to you as soon as I find a solution-- but it will take about a week or so before I get a chance to work on this because I have finals coming up and will not have much time to look into it.
If I can find any time this week to work on it, I'll do so-- but I won't guarantee anything. -
No problem, Im not really in a hurry. I was just harrowed cos I couldnt figure out why it wasnt working.
-
no more sticky... ahhhhh ... why?
-
Yes, i noticed that the other day. Some smeghead obviously thought it unworthy
-
Guys,
Just to say thanks for an excellent thread.
I bought a m15x via Ebay and the Command Center / AlienFX weren't working properly, but I was hitting brick walls with Alienware's "We only support the original purchaser" policy until I found this site and now, with the updated Command Centre installed, everything is working perfectly.
Cheers
Tim -
I've had the same FAEnrollWiz error as Mortis and gone back to older CC.
-
Is there a thread for the more recent drivers for the m15x from ltv2g? The 180.70 are the most recent I have and I just did a factory reinstall. I also seem to remember that nivida had recently released some "official" drivers for my type of card. I also remember that you would run the update and it would never find any of nivida's hardware on your system and then just close. Any updates on this?
