Do either of those cables have N392W on them anywhere ?

Google has nothing on that part number at all.

The first one you quoted translates in to the N392W though. Unless you have either a bad cable or a bad LCD you shouldn't be having any problems.

Tried laptop screens.com they stock them, still a 40 pin connector but it's lays flat to the motherboard on the never Alienware 17 r3 a bit like macbook pros do.

    Never mind worth a try...

    Thanks

yes, cos you need extra equipment to do 3d. if you have a GPU upgrade like me and a few others then you can't to 3d anyway.

    Guys help needed,

I had to replace my LVDS cable for LCD issues, and the display part was a bit tough for me, is there any chance that we might screw up the antenna ports / wires that pass through the display hinge ?? IF we don't remove the wires from laptop base I didn't remove the wires from the laptop base instead I kept the lid and base close to each other, thought that would be extra hassle, My bad.

The left side of the hinge latch which screws to the lid had a wire underneath it, not flush like the right latch I noticed it after screwing the latch, removed them and assured there were no wires this time.

I know the BCM chip is faulty but it drops a point of signal and gains back, I just don't remember this happening too often, could be the stupid Comcast stock router's 5GHz as well since it's not stable It started working just a couple of days back before that the 5GHz went dark. Just post your thoughts.

    Sorry for the OT.

EDIT : The comcast router's 5GHz is dead now, Now I could breathe a little.

    Hi Mate

to be honest when i replaced my screen with a 120hz panel i didn't completely remove the screen. I just loosened the hinge enough to feed the cable through and check its in the correct channels behind the hinge as i tighten it up and back into place.

Oh, I see but I didn't remove those wireless antenna cables or the display power cable etc. So I had to remove the hinge fully and keep the 2 frames (laptop base and the display frame) closer since the cables are connected and had to perform the LVDS replacement. It was a bit annoying since the hinge mechanism is quite good and It needs the full display frame to make use & force on both ends & I thought loosening it or making it not flush would've caused any dmg because of the weight and cables being connected...

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way to test to see if my emitter ( does the emitter show up in device manager) or glasses ( glasses are fully charged ) are not working. I followed all the instructions for the Screen upgrade , when I am in the NVidia control panel and I try to set up the glasses I get as far as the screen with the two pictures for the right and left eye and can only see the one shape with each eye covered and the test fails. I was able to fool the test by choosing the correct picture and get all the way past the test, but am still not able to view anything in 3D

For the 120hz screen on AW17. How about the brick? Is it because of using windows 10 or because of nvidia driver?

Use the latest Win10 not the LTSB build or 10240 a.k.a TH1, get TH2 and No EVGA Precision X also, this is not only limited to 120Hz it's also effected to 60Hz also, clevo and Aws both have effected machines, stay away from Precision X, MSI AB too, use HWInfo for monitoring, Nvidia Inspector for OCing.

If anyone is interested this is the one I got from Ebay. 3D-Screen-LCD-For-17-3-Dell-Inspiron-17R-N7720-SE-Alienware-M17X-GN36T. It is a DO2 as the picture shows. Had to order from China.
Installed, booted up and there you go 3D. I made sure the current NVidia driver for GTX880m was up to date before the upgrade .I am running on windows 10. The Nvidia control panel now shows that I have a Nvidia 3D Vision notebook under 3D display type and a Nvidia 3D Vision ready logo is present. Tested out on a few 3D games , truly amazing.

ICC profiles of one Panel shouldn't be used on other even If it's the same brand and model, AFAIK.

I don't know much on this but I've read about some open source display calibration tools, DisplayCAL, Argyll, Someone with more insight would be of huge help.

Indeed as Ashtrix says it is not recommended to use a random ICC profile. Each one has to be properly calibrated for each LCD panel to get good results.

But if you just want to take away or "kill" the blue gaze of common LCD panels and do not own a calibrator here there is one that works pretty well with your Samsung LTN173HT02
Me personally I just got an X-Rite i1Display Pro calibrator but I've been using the .icc profile I'm proving since a long time and was very happy about it.

Hope that temporally works for you XGIII :)

Just to update I got 2 eDP cables with me, one from Dell and One from Ebay at much higher price, decided to keep it in case. Now just will wait for the 120Hz upgrade soon.

ok guys i've ran this 120hz 3d setup for years one of the original members at the beginning to give this a try, ever since i've updated to windows 10 i sometimes get failed boot to windows screen. As black screen and infinite amount of beeps. I have to restart , several times and then suddenly it'll boot up like normal. Like i said i only remember it happening since i upgraded to windows 10. Should i go back to windows 8 or 7? and what setting do i need to enable so that I don't end having to blindly set up the bios?

Ran a diagnostic through the bios and everything checked fine. I'm set at UEFI with legacy OPROM ; secure boot: OFF. Looks right to me? I'm guessing maybe there's a bios setting that got switched?

That's the thing I wait and it doesn't come in a group it just continuously beeps till I hold the power button down to restart. If I sleep mode to to turn off , she'll start right up. We're if I shut down or restart sometimes it will go into that beep mode with no screen display. Seems like it only started happening when I upgraded to windows 10

Long time reader first time poster. I just came across and bought off of eBay a full 120hz 3d complete screen assembly. (I'm upgrade my screen). The issue is that the back lid is banged up so I want to use my current lid cover and put the 3d parts inside. Is it pretty straight forward part swap? I am running a fresh install of windows 10 pro in uefi mode. Is there anything or advice anyone can give before I start my upgrade?

Shouldn't be an issue provided you have all the parts. The bezel will unclip and then you just have to remove the screws and replace the screen and cable ( have to remove the keyboard for that ). The LCD cover never has to come off the computer for this upgrade. The hardest part is pulling the keyboard/palmrest to get at the cable. If the set you bought didn't come with an extra screw for the 3D emiiter you can rob one from the bottom cover.

I was not able to find a way to test these. my problem was not in the glasses or the emitter but in the display its self. I was not using the do2 version , when I installed the correct one then I was able to get the glasses to work.

The screen versions unfortunately are turning out to be very important :( it was something that we didn't have as much of a problem with at the start as there were not as many varients but it seems to be getting worse and people are having issues finding the correct models.

Oh NP. I have few AW17's now, but some need to be repaired, or upgraded for me to turn them back into full test benches. It's been 2 years since I needed one for testing 980M's. I also opted to keep a M17X-R4 around instead for a while just to test Alienware stuff.

You know by chance the MB part number, off hand for the AW17 too ?

Alienware keep providing on the aesthetic front. No doubt about that with all that beautiful design and all. But why are they actually stalling on the 1080 gtx. I've heard that they're waiting for properly changing the design of the laptop itself but hmm.. I don't really seem to get it. It actaully became a focal point in my decision change.
