I finally updated my stock dell drivers. The 285.79 drivers make absolutely no difference for me. I checked before and after with fraps and got the exact same fps in Skyrim, Whiterun and Bleak Fall Barrows.

I also overclocked the gpu to 700/1000/1400 with NVIDIA system tools, this gives me about 10-15% increased performance. Without overclock I played on Ultra with AAx2 en AFx16 shadows medium. With overclock same settings but shadows on high.

1.2 PC patch looks good so far. No CTD, no missing textures, no backwards-flying dragon. Didn't experience resistance attack yet.

    Holding my breath.

How does this update? 1.1 patch downloaded automatically but I've not yet seen Steam download the 1.2 patch for Skyrim?

EDIT: Is v1.2.12 running the latest patch?

What is strange is that Steam updated the game even though it was set to "Do not update automatically.

I only played about an hour under 1.2 but so far all is as stable as it ever was (I turned off Occlusion because I got a 10 point hit to my FPS).

I've been playing skyrim for about 2 weeks now, and I love it. I overclock to 750/1500/1050 and have been able to play it on ultra because of it pretty great. But as of recently, randomly the game would pause for a few seconds, and the gpu will return to its regular clock settings (throttling). Is there any way I can fix that? Either a new driver? I have the newest 290.36 i believe its called. Its only with skyrim and only when I overclock, I never used to do that the first week I overclocked.

reduce your OC or get a better cooling. further you could clean the fans and eventually put new paste on the cpu (loosing ur warranty tho). this is called thermal throtteling.

Thanks for that. I did them all except Ambient Occlusion at 900p and it really does make a huge difference. I did everything that link suggested and I didn't notice much of a fps loss until I turned on AO (I didn't have FRAPS running so just going by my eye) but even without AO, it still looks alot better than it did before.

I love skyrim. Awesome game but just wondered I keep stuttering n cities. After much research everyone says that it's CPU intensive game. I brought the base m14x 2ghz. Is there anyway to overclock just to help when playing Skyrim?

    Something fun/interesting:

So this weekend I rerolled a second stealth character, because my first one was unfocused and all over the place. This time I'm building a bow/DualW thief/assassin.

I joined the Thieves guild, which I didn't do during my first uncompleted playthrough. When I reached Mercer for the first time, something awesome happened.
I realized that the head of the Thieves Guild is voiced by none other then Stephen Russell, who voiced Garrett from the Thief games.

    This was very cool.

    Thought I'd share :)

I've installed the game on my XPS 17 of an equivalent spec, and by default the settings were set to high, with 8xAA and 8xAF. What kind of performance can I expect at 1600x900?

I've not had a chance to play the game thus far, largely due to my current mouse being on the blink.

Any suggestions for settings appropriate for the spec listed in my signature? I'm looking for a solid 30 frames at least, preferably on high settings.

Set AA to Off. As someone said before, at high res the AA only serves to reduce your FPS, as it simply doesn't show.

I'm on default high settings, no AA and my FPS is steady at 30-45.

Hi bishie, i have skyrim on my l702x and get atleast 30fps everywhere normally, the settings i use are basically high with aa and af off but fxaa on. I couldnt tell any difference between fxaa and aa so i just turned aa off and boosted my fps. Btw also try overclocking, i can get nearly 10 more fps with a overclock with only a 2degree increase in temp.

Hey guys, I just found a UI Mod for Skyrim, and want to share with you guys here and for those who irritate with the horrible console port, here is a link to (temporary) fix that problem: Amazing UI Mod for Skyrim (SkyUI), I wish they kept it update and if possible add the ability to keybinding properly. Now I can enjoy Skyrim than before.

With the new 1.310 patch, no need for the Skyrim4Gb mod.
In fact, it won't even run (the mod, not the game!)

AF barely affects performance on all modern GPUs. Run it at 8x and you wont notice any major difference in FPS, but I recommend you force it in the Nvidia control panel instead of through the game itself. Nvidia's AF method looks much better. Check out this guide for more details and lots of other information: Skyrim Tweak Guide

SkyUI is an amazing mod, I agree that it really makes the game more enjoyable.

Also new mod has been released and it optimizes some of the game code increasing FPS in a lot of areas, especially towns and cities. There are some bugs, but it works as described. TESV Acceleration Layer

Tonight I did a ton of mods.. Heres a screenshot I took and use as a wallpaper now. I also have a gallery of about 35 in my Steam gallery Im uploading as I post this. Getting around 40fps at 1680x1050, shadows on medium at overclock in signature. Overall Id say my game isnt Skyrim anymore, its Crysis with a bethesda mod.

    http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5198/2011122600043.jpg

    EDIT: The whole gallery

    http://steamcommunity.com/id/gearsguy/screenshots/

I NEVER go below 30fps. Ever.

Temps: http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6819/gpuztemps.png (Strange my overclock didnt show)

Lets see anyone try to say the M14x isnt a true gaming notebook now.

right.... but yet it plays pretty much 99% of the games out there. all satisfactory.
if you brought it thinking it would max everything out then no its not a "true" gaming notebook.

The FXAA Injector might be your problem. The mods change the d3d9.dll file, which for some reason forces nVidia Optimus to use the onboard Intel HD GPU, even if you have the nVidia GPU preferred in the control panel. As of the moment I don't personally know of a work around for this (one commonly suggested involves changing a couple ENB configuration file settings, doesn't work though), but I do know the creators of some of these mods are working on a fix for Optimus.

So yeah this would explain your poor performance, I had the same problem (average of 10 fps or so with the FXAA Injector), and without the FXAA Injector, I followed Gear's control panel tweaks and even have several texture improvement mods and tweaks, and I'm now running 40 fps average, not dropping below 30 so far. I would just remove the FXAA Injector and see if that fixes it too, until someone comes up with a fix for it. Hope this helps

Y'know funny that you mention that. I actually play Skyrim on my TV via HDMI so it automatically switches to the GT555m and runs reasonably well. Tons of texture mods (minus the water one GearsGuy listed but with several more in addition to his list) and I run at a stable 30-40FPS in like 90% of places in the game. So what you're saying probably doesnt have an effect on my normal gaming.

Buuut last night, I decided to bring my laptop over to my friends place and without plugging into a monitor, I found it always used the integrated card not the GT555M. I tried everything, even setting the global setting but nothing worked. As you said the FXAA Injector was probably the issue but I just never noticed because the HDMI port always forces the GT555M on. I wish I read your post last night =/

    hi, new owner here.

i'm having a few minor issues on SC2, and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing these problems.

    1. does the game usually take long to load for those that play?
i'm using the i7-2760, 4 gb ram, the 1.5 gfx card, and the killer n wireless card -- and switched most settings to gfx settings to medium on the game.

    2. also, my screen brightness changes in-game (gets darker) whenever i alt+tab out, and return back to the game screen. i have to go to options and mess with the gamma every time to get the brightness back to where i want it.

Unfortunately this seems to be the only way to play enb series mods, using a external monitor. I would love for a optimus compatible version to be released so i can play it on my laptop screen.

I run skyrim ok with mods on the laptop screen.

I manually added the SKSE_Loader.exe to force to the GT555 as well. I noticed after i put a couple of the SKSE mods on that it reverted back to onboard (was getting 18fps)

When i checked the nvidia control panel, TESV.exe was forced to GT555 but not the SKSE_Loader.exe, now i have set that i have no trouble at all

    Hope that helps
