M14x Order Status Discussion

Pulled the trigger and ordered the M14x on the 6th. Now begins the waiting game..

Ended up getting a promo which came with a free Orion Backpack, but I also ordered the sleeve (will sell the backpack) Here's the interesting part:

I ordered mine on the 7th and have also got the crazy long shop date for the bag

However, your Alienware seems its going to land like 5 days before mine

Also just noticed that you're in the UK, that may throw the build dates off.

 

I live in the UK, but I've ordered it to a friends house in the USA. I save around £400 due to th exchange rate, and I'm going over on holiday anyway, so i'll pick it up from him when I'm over.

You've got a few more upgrades than me, they must just have an already pre-built version of yours near ready.

Still, the backpack shipping date is an issue as I'm only in the USA till 23rd August and mine says it will arrive on the 25th , So i'm really hoping that that changes.

 

Order date was 7/3, estimated shipping date is 9/8...why so long?!

Looks like you bought almost the exact same configuration that I did. Where are you located?

 

Rochester, NY...I bought it through a quote with Dell with the free xbox promotion. I'm thinking that had to have messed the date up?

 

It's possible, not sure how that promo works. I looked at the config again, we bought the same machine except for warranty so either one of the parts just went OOS, or your promo is holding it up, or it's a typo.

If my estimate changes, I'll post it. Hope it works out!

I order a M14X on the 8th of july and its already on production, how long does production usually last ? estimated shipping july 21 and i payed for next bussinnes day

 

Nice configuration Congrats on your purchase! Are you going to be adding in an SSD later or sticking with the large storage space ?

Seems about right, I ordered 2 days before you and have the same estimates delivery date. You're getting yours faster since you upgraded the shipping. Seems production times are about a week and a half for most. What configuration did you order?

I ordered mine on the 7th and its still says "Order Processing" on the laptop. The bag says "In Production. And when i checked my bank account, the money had not left yet. Should i ring up and see whats going on?

The money still there isn't a surprise. Dell typically charges you when the order ships. But if you ordered on the 7th it shouldn't still be in the Processing phase I'd give them a call.

 

Just noticed that I have an updated delivery date for the backpack and sleeve. It went from 8/22 to 7/19!

Note: When you guys order did anyone else notice that there was a $20 charge for customizing the nameplate? I called and complained and they are refunding the $20 to me and it's also been changed on the configuration onsite now as well. Wondering how many people they got with that.

 

Confirmed, the $20 charge for the customized nameplate has disappeared.

 

Sadly, there is no custom nameplate option even available in Canada (or anywhere else in the world outside of the US IIRC). I would actually consider paying the $20 if they would at least give me the option...

I didn't know that option was only available in the US to begin with. I've owned 3 Alienware laptops in the past and the customized nameplate was always part of the 'experience'. I've even ordered a refurb unit and called for a nameplate for it, which was sent to me at no charge. I saw the $20 charge when I ordered the M14x and was surprised, but it's good to see the extra charge is gone. I wonder what would happened if you called for a customized one?

The 3GB graphics card makes no difference, and the 2820QM processor is overkill unless you need it for something specific (e.g. not gaming).

Hopefully at least got the 1600x900 display as well and that these upgrades weren't instead of it.

 

Here is what I found out. According to my order and the notes in Dells database which the technician had found, the assembly center is out of HD wireless transmitter assemblies. I was lucky enough to find out that the transmitters may arrive by 7/20 and assuming no other problems the laptop sould ship soon after that. Thats my story, or at least the way they told me.

 

Yes I got the 1600x900 display as well.

 

I have to say i ordered mine and it came 2 weeks before ESD so am very happy.

If I wanted the Premium build + Killer network card by August 13, when do you guys suppose the last day I could order is? Move-in day for my university is the 13th. but its a 3hr drive so it wont be terrible if I have to come back. just an inconvenience.

 

I ordered mine on the 7th, and it still says order processing Delivery date is still the 26th, however I am getting worried however with that it's still saying "order processing"

Also, the Orion bag is "In Production" with a delivery date of 26th of August is that about

Hello there everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. Registered so I could share my M14x order status woes with you all:

Ordered -- 6/26
Estimated delivery date -- 7/11
Updated later to -- 7/20
Updated again to -- 7/27

I called tech support and was told the delays are because it's a popular model. If so, then they shouldn't have estimated a two-week delivery date. I was assigned a 'case manager' who was going to contact me in 24-48 hours, and it's been well past 48 hours and still no contact. Will probably be calling again on Monday.

I see that gabe406 was told the delay is because of the HD wireless transmitter assemblies, but I have no wireless HD ordered for my laptop, so I'm wondering if that's really the reason for the delay? The tech support person did say that there won't be a third delay, so maybe he also saw something about a 7/20 ship. I'm in Dallas, so hopefully the 7-day shipping will end up being a lot less (cuz they come from Round Rock, right?). Regardless, if it's not here in time for me to set it up before Quakecon, I'm gonna lose my cool.

hmmm that is pretty strange, i ordered my m14x on 7/12 and called today and they said its already built and will be shipped out either monday or tuesday...same specs as your minus the 3.0gb GT....stuck with the 1.5gb

 

When I talked to the technician I asked twice what the delayed reason was and if there was anything that was holding it up. He reaffirmed that it was only the internal HD transmitter. He also mentioned that they were on back order and had an estimated delivery date of 7/19 to 7/20. At least that is what they say...

 

Maybe you hit the sweet spot in your order timing?

I only got the 3.0GB card because it was part of that backpack promotion. And the backpack showed up at my house just a couple of days after the order, so it sucks to see it sitting there all lonely.

 

You spoke to a better tech than I did. I asked mine if there was a specific part that was causing the delays, and if so, perhaps I could adjust my order so it could ship earlier (i.e. I could've gone down to the 1.5GB card from the 3.0GB). He wouldn't say, other than 'the M14x is our most popular model of Alienware right now'. But he did say 'there will be no further delays' and I asked him to clarify, and he repeated himself. C'mon Dell, get it movin'!

 

I hate to admit but I was very irate. I told the technicain that i had been bounced around all over Dells support and that if this call was not going to give me answers I wanted to cancel the whole thing. The tech was very nice and I do beleive he was reading exactly what was on the screen. Another call to check on your order might get you better results...

 

Good advice, thanks. If the 'case manager' doesn't contact me in the next few hours, I'll give another call to see what else I can get from them. I have no qualms with cancelling the order, so maybe I can get similar treatment.

EDIT -- I just called, and was told their customer service data is unavailable due to a server update, which could last 24 hours. ?!?

 

Oh, wow! That really sucks! I can't believe a company like Dell would not have failover or conitnuity of business plans. All that money for a network that has to be down for 24 hours. Not too many places that would tolerate that! Sorry, that just sucks!

 

Yeah, it seemed kind of odd to me. I'm gonna try calling again after work. All of my data is still available on the website, so hopefully it'll be back up tonight.

EDIT: I just spoke to someone, and their systems are back up. Apparently, the first tech I spoke to on Friday should've said a case manager would contact me in '1 or 2 business days' instead of '24 to 48 hours'. I'm supposedly getting a call from a case manager tomorrow. Fingers crossed! I really don't want to have to cancel this order, or deal with a return, or even worse, have it sitting on my porch while I'm traveling and either have it get stolen or melt in the Texas heat.

So, you're getting it tomorrow? Nice. Wish they'd do the same for me. Mine still shows 7/28. We'll see if this 'case manager' calls me today too. Starting to get pissed off.

 

I had an initial confusion...when i placed my order....on the 8th ...the guy told me i`ll get it by the 12th ...but to my surprise ...i was getting it on the 25th...after a lot of calls..i managed to get the delivery date to 21st but today morning when i woke up...i got a mail saying its already been shipped and when i keyed in the tracking device ..to my surprise..its already on a truck on its way to my home Still havent got it though...hopefully by tonight ...i should have it in my hands

 

holycrap , i checked the delivery status online right now, and it says the driver already tried delivering it but no one was there, but ive been here allll day f!!!

so ic alled fedex and the driver is coming back....SOOO IM GETTING IT TODAYYYYY. ill make an unboxing video for you all....hope yours comes sooner lordbling

Sweet! Looks like you got almost the same system I ordered, except for the color. Makes me wonder even more what the friggin' hold up is!

 

thanks trooper, congrats on your new m14x, we both have the same delivery day, so it'll be a good gauge of the intensity and life of the product, keep us posted on any upgrades you do, lets see how long we both go without experiencing any major problems.....mine should be here in a couple hours max..

I still haven't heard from any Case Manager. So, I e-mailed the Service Desk with my Service Request # and laid out the entire sordid tale on e-mail. Told them I intend on cancelling the order if it doesn't arrive by 7/27. Also mentioned a couple of you (not by name) who received (or are about to receive) your order today, even though the orders were placed two weeks after mine.

I'd heard the complaints about Dell's customer service, but my thought was, "If I get the laptop I want, I shouldn't need them!" Probably a little naive on my part.
