There is no way they can make you return it or charge you the difference at this point.
If they want to refund your money and cancel your order, that's fine, but you can not complete a transaction at one price and then try to collect more money from the customer later. [Obvious] pricing error or not, it's a bait and switch, and it's very illegal most places. Car dealerships have been hammered for exactly this sort of thing in the past. Worst that can happen is they turn around the shipment before it gets to you. If you receive the laptop that you paid for, you have nothing to worry about.

So jealous you guys received yours. I wonder what held mine up that allowed them to cancel it before it shipped.

Maybe dells thinks you did not work hard enough or you did not deserve it. Slap in the face really that they pick and choose who gets it. In a perfect world Dell would apologize and thank all service members for there time and WOW them by delivering the product ahead of time. Instead they just lead you on and then pull out the classic, "Price Mistake" cop out.
I think of Microsoft on the other hand who did the phone challenge and gave away 50 laptops and Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cellphones, gift cards and accessories. All just to get a little bit of PR and get the products in the hand of consumers to show off to there friends and hopefully convert them too. Dell could have easily used this to push thousands of alienwares into the hands of military and try to WOW their friends into buying there next laptop from Alienware. You can try to plead your case on Facebook, Twitter, AAFES, [email protected], BBB or any other company but in the end you are getting no where. -
fyi I recieved mine today, shoulda gotten it yesterday but nobody was home to sign lol.. yey
-
Wow, I'm chatting with the AAFES rep now and she says both orders for the same build are still scheduled to ship.
-
-
Anyways, I'm still set for my first order to ship May 21st. It's ~$400 less than retail so I'm still pretty happy about it. Just not as happy as $650 less. -
On another note, has anyone that has received theirs had a problem with the service tag not populating in Dell's database? My service tag is not showing up and when I called I was told it didn't exist in their system. -

I say its bull, I should report them to AAFES. there is a disclaimer before purchase saying you would not resale. I hope none of my Marine brothers are doing that .

Can anyone tell me what the best course of action for an SSD swap is? I've read that you shouldn't image the HDD to the SSD. Is it best to swap in the SSD and then do a clean install from the manufacturer disks? And if I do that, will I have all the Alienware apps and stuff, or will it just look like a normal Windows 7 install?

Filed a complaint to BBB. filed it against Dell.
I suggest others to do the same.
Thanks! -

I can only imagine since you're from (installation name) and you're selling an M14x R2 for well below Dell retail price that you're attempting to profit off your AAFES discount. I suggest you cancel your auction and either use the laptop or return it to AAFES before I report this to AAFES and your base CO. You should not be attempting to profit off the benefits given to the armed forces.
I followed this up with a copy of the terms and conditions from AAFES. -
I think it is completely reasonable to complain to BBB. There's a lot of emotion that comes into play on a big purchase. In addition, a lot of plans are set into motion when one makes that purchase (aftermarket purchases, sales of old assets, etc). It's pretty bad that Dell did this, and they should face some repercussions... And they are, actually, considering they are honoring a large number of orders. Sadly, that doesn't help those who were screwed.

At best they'd probably just get a slap on the wrist. Dell will counter saying whats done is done and they already cancelled it and cant rebuild it at that price blah blah blah
Would be awesome if they do honor those people who had theirs cancelled but I just know theyll come up with some bs excuse why they cant now. -
-
I'm hoping they'll at least make peace by offering a coupon or something to give people a comparable price. Maybe not $ 550, but perhaps $750 or so?
-
-
I'm sure they still make a profit if they sell it for $750. I wouldn't be surprised if these cost Dell about $400 to build.

The USAF Academy one ended early, "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." -

I got $300 off each of my 2 orders. Not the $650 I missed out on, but I am happy. 5 hours on the phone finally paid off.
-
What does that mean? What did you pay and for what specs?
-
I got the base model with tax for $843
My other one, i7 3.3 ghz, 1600x900 screen, and 2gb Grpahic card(everything esle is base) for $1,124. -
I hope you realize with the M14x you can buy $300 in gift cards and get $50 free. So buy $1200 and get $200 in gift cards saving you 16% and then students get $200 back in gift cards to use or sell on ebay with $699 purchase. After that you negotiate a solid price using reps on NBR or dell reps. Than stack all your savings together and get a solid price.
