    @Papusan @etern4l

I thought the 11th Gen CPUs support 4000+ MHz RAM. Even my XPS 13 OLED Touch has 4267 MHz RAM so how come the x15/x17 only has 3200 and 3600 MHz RAM options?

    LPDDR4x-4267 :) Or DDR4-3200 ( 3600 3466MHz with XMP). x15 come with soldered ram and no XMP.

Good question! Could it be that the laptops are so thin that 4000+MHz memory didn't fit? ;)

Maybe they need a Mr.Fox mod on it. replace the screws with slightly longer ones on GPU and CPU maybe it will make a difference lol.

What 3466mhz ram they use? Whats the Cas Latency? I cannot find any laptop memory with 3466mhz xmp profile.

This lmao. What kinda **** is this?

Also these scores are really mediocre… the cpu scores seem to be high probably thanks to the 3466mhz ram but those gpu scores are atrocious, a 150w 3080 should be hitting at least 12.8 -> 13k+…

This is probably the reason why they haven’t sent out any review units yet haha.

Don‘t you think that could be an driver issue or something with dynamic boost?

If you take a look into the 3DMark results for the same config MSi scores nearly the same…

What exactly is the difference between the M 17 R4 and this X17...I put in a pre-order for the X17 to give a 17" a shot as I don't travel much anymore, but also don't want a full desktop anymore...but I still want something I can travel with if need be. I get the X17 has quad fans, but the M17 R4 is about the same price...same thickness, same-sh overall dimensions - but is actually MUCH lighter. So Now I'm confused. M17R4 has a full numb-pad as well...I see the X17 has a 4K 120Hz option 500 nits which looks really nice - but nothing above 1080P on the M17R4?? Are the M17 R4's GPUs running at the same TDP? If so, what really is the banging difference here other than fancy thermal solution - it's as thick, weighs more, does have a nicer looking form factor, but....yeah.

I was leaning towards X15 just to get something really thin, but not sure it's worth it for this price when a Zephyrus G15 can be had with a similar TDP 3070 for under 2 grand.

Update - ahh, I see that only the X15/X17 are getting Intel's latest CPU currently.

New video of the X15 being capped to death. When she first posted the video I noticed her specs said 3080 Ti and commented about it. Alienware took it down immediately and fixed the spec sheet then re-uploaded lol .

The m17 r4 has vaporchamber for heatsink with little modification I think will provide better cooling then the x17. Liquid metal coppershims pad changes and longer screws
I've read people had success keeping gpu under 60 in intensives games and cpu under 78 in cpu demanding games WITHOUT UNDERVOLT. I would still undervolt gpu and overclock it to get lower temps and high-clocks. Go look @mr.fox youtube video for that. Undervolt cpu at -60mv should help some too.

Number pad of course is pro.

I can't remember if it has full SD card slot if it does this wins lol if it doesn't aw well.

    3 nvme slots (x17 has 2 only)

More usb ports! Plus you ain't gotta go to the back of your laptop for everything.

NO HEAT WHILE USING EXTERNAL MOUSE (from side vents)

Though tb 3 is old it also has a aga slot which you can now buy on ebay for 100 bucks (modify with a cx650 or even 750m powersupply and boom 3070 or even 3080 can be used) compared to 1 tb 4 port for everything and having to buy a dock!

    It's lighter.

Has 2 colors to chose from.

It's cheaper. Since around 1000 cheaper then x17 maxed out you can use that to get 4 yr warranty lol or save your cash.

I'm sure someone has figured a lcd panel that 1440p that can be installed in it. It does have 4k but only 60hz. 1080p at 360hz which it will never hit unless your playing wow.

No issue removing the element 31 (because it doesn't come with it plus if you get the x17 and mod it with different paste you'll have to get the paste direct from Dell which they will figure out you changed it or they won't even sell it to you because they always require reason)

Plenty of reviews and even a tear down on YouTube!

If you decide on dell get a 17 as all 15 in are severely crippled. They are like max q counterparts

Now if you can purchase anything beside a alienware PLEASE DO THAT AND STAY AWAY FROM DELL PERIOD! ASUS sells are far more superior product and probably cost 1000 to 1500 less then a maxed out dell.

Biggest flaw on m17 r4 is soldered memory and so wifi card (but you can get a nvme to usb or something else to upgrade since it has the small nvme slot..also since it has more usb port u can buy a usb one. (Can't be upgraded and if board has issues you need to replace entire board

No matter how hard you try to warn people, humans prefer to learn from their own mistakes. Marketing easily defeats reason, in most people anyway :)

That said, the ridiculous keyboard, the possibly limited ports and the impact of thinness on thermals and reliability aside, the x17 doesn't look like a total loss - at least it has SODiMM slots! The x15 is a sad joke all around though.

I agree..m17 r4 is the way to go if you are going to go new Alienware laptop at this point but I would stay far away from it all just like you said lol. If you want to run aga on m17 r4, a 550w power supply upgrade would suffice should you want to go 3080 or 3090..i mean you could do 650 or 750 but that is way overkill. GPU max will draw like 350.

I saw Ultrabookreview's take on the m15 R5. He had the CPU running at about 65W, and 100C during Cinebench, with fans pushed to the limit. So that probably seems to be what the M15 R5 with the 'good' heatsink can do, which means it's not even close to being good enough for us.

That said Dell will try every trick in the book to prevent a return: sending techs on site to fix QA issues, cash rebate to keep the laptop etc. The other question is how much time before they process a refund - last time I checked people were talking about weeks to months in extreme cases.

Last time I have returned an Alienware Laptop in Germany I got the refund one day later after I handed over the package to the local UPS store. So nothing to complain about. Perfect service! At least in Germany :)

    Right on.

Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, Dell may charge a restocking fee of 15% of the purchase price paid less shipping and handling, plus any applicable sales tax, which would be applied through a total reduced refund or credit.

So I'm still trying to decide between x17 3080 i7, FHD, and same spec'd MSI GE76 raider, both same price, exact same spec's. Any opinions?

@Papusan you always got a good opinion, what are your thoughts?

Both will perform similarly. I'd go for the X17 just because the design and build quality will be better than MSI. The lights on the MSI keyboard and RGB bar is very dull and boring while the alienware will pop with a much better mechanical keyboard. Not to mention dell support is miles ahead of MSI.

The MS GE76 RAIDER is a big brick compared to the Alienware and all MSI skills are dull and lack any color vibrancy. Alienware every single day of the week.

Depends if you want to tweak your device.

Stock Alienware is better. But if you're planning to overclock it the MSI has more options like an advanced bios which allows for memory overclocking.

Thanks for this run-down! I guess it depends on if the 11th gen really brings a lot to the table? I cancelled all my pre-orders for X15 and X17 because I saw the keyboard where they pulled a Razer - putting the SHIFT'd character markings UNDERNEATH the normal key, which is mind-boggly backward for me to learn.

I have a Zephyrus G15 now, got it a few days ago and as someone who was using a G14 for 4 months which I adored - I think I'm sticking with the G15. I haven't had a chance to full run it through it's paces yet though, but I already like the Zephyrus keyboards a lot from using the G14 for a while, and this new one is better because it's not a silver keycap anymore with some nice colors to pick from. While I love the portability of the G14, I recently picked up an ultrawide display and needed this 3070 with 8GB of RAM to run it a bit better and so far it's working out well in that regards. For example, the G14 could not really drive native 3440x1440P at all - barely hung above 60FPS - but the G15 is sailing past 100FPS easily.

I had a GT73VR Titan Pro, GT75 8RG, and I went to the mall 4 months back and looked at all the MSI models ranging from the Raiders, to the stealth, to the GT76 and compared them side by side to other laptops, the screens look dull and the colors are pale in comparison to any laptop near them (they had an HP Omen, Alienware, Razer Blades. I have never seen worse screens to be honest.

We are talking about the current GE76. Screens in other / older models are irrelevant. It must have been a 144Hz variant or something. I would trust notebookcheck here to be honest.
