FWIW I'm happy as with my new MSI GS63vr and temps are good so im not going strip out the board to change the ssd nvme as mine shipped with a fast samsung not an m2 as reviewers have said.

so as I've cancelled my AW13 my 2 1tb Nvme ssd are up for sale just put them on the bay, a PM961 for 369.99 (SOLD) and PM951 249.99 (SOLD) both 1tb

edited / all gone now thanks

I just posted this on the repaste guide forum, but applies to anyone thinking of repasting using liquid metel...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...assembly-repaste-guide-results.797373/page-43

"Came across this Reddit post, and it seems a Dell employee has mentioned that using liquid metal thermal compound will void your warranty due to the toxic materials, which under health and safety rules, does not allow Dells engineers to work on such a laptop. Is there any validity to this?

Oh dear! You won't even be able to deny it if you mess it up either. Big gamble. Anyway what paste brands are liquid metal? I've only ever bought ic diamond. And I stopped seeing it so got a tub of artic silver 4 if my memory serves me correct (I've never had to use a repaste so far)

It's nothing to mess up in my opinion. Use electrical tape to keep a unlikely spread from frying the CPU/GPU and you are set. There's nothing more to think about, just set and forget. A traditional paste will loose it's ability over time and dry out. I usually drop 5-10 degrees on load with metal, so for me it's about the lifespan of the components. I will also undervolt the CPU and over clock the 1060...

Coollaboratory Liquid Pro and Ultra, and one or more of Thermal Grizzly's brands. Conductonaut, I think.

OK, so EDD just shifted from 25 Nov to 6 Dec..I had a reply from Dell rep earlier today to say there is a part shortage, but didn't go into details.

Are you in the UK? Most US orders had a ETA range and most of them went out till the 5th or 6th. If that's the case then that still lines up with their initial estimate.

My rep stated that my order had moved out of "pending production" and into the initial stages of production. This does not mean it's physically being made yet, but that there has been some movement internally in regards to the order status.

It's not that bad actually depends on the game but with a few tweaks runs most stuff fine unless you "gotta be ULTRA" , My personal opinion is 4k at medium is nicer than 1080p at ultra... just sayin

Well dell Made me give up on 4K, they won't sell it with the 1080 and on the 1070 they'll only sell it with the 6700

So now it's down to 1440p, trying to decide if I go with the lower fps on the oled/1060 or go with the 1080/dumb tn panel. The gtx 1080 Aw 17 is $500 more over the oled 13

I had the 17r4 1070 w/ 1440p TN and hated it personally easily the weak point on that laptop. fast though just looked ****

Having had a good play on both now I would pick the 1080p IPS all the way no question.

should be more options coming along soon hopefully? this whole launch 13/15/17 has been a real mess seems like they were late to the (pascal) party and rushed it

......and still showing "dispatches in 3 -5 days" ..... aint even funny any more, Umar is ignoring any questions about the 13 only talking about the 17 / 1080 and he's being cagey on the max CPU temps on that..... too starting to act like Volkswagen with their emissions "problems".... :D

Still way better than the complete joke of a company that is Razer at least you can call someone...

I hate calling dell I tried ordering the 1070 4K today and once they told me I couldn't get the 6820 and I said ok nvm the rep let me have it again. Tried selling me even last years Alienware, told me I'd be waiting 5 years for a 7th gen i7.

Pretty much I need something portable for work and I'm never on my desktop so I'd prefer a gaming laptop

Think I'll see if I can find a Best Buy with a 13inch to see if it's not too small and get that instead

You think that's bad, don't forget they're the ones that told everyone when the 17 launched that the uk didn't have the other screen options because it was early.

then frank tried to cover it up with this:
Frank: You're right I screwed up, I apologize.I missed the Gsync detail, I'm meeting with the team tomorrow to see what we can do

yeah i switched to an MSI!

I hadnt even considered them but i had only seen the bigger really over the top ones, then a mate showed me his GS63vr with 1060

and I'm really pleased with it, so light and portable for what it is, build quality has been great, stays cooler than my 17r4 did smashes games at 1080p initial firestrike scores of around 10000, still getting to grips with it but I'm pleased.

its not much bigger than the 13 and lighter and thinner, people have moaned about its fan noise, well i must have got lucky because this one is fine

oh i looked the other options already just my budget is pretty low and with dell i have $3000 credit

if i had the money id get an msi also. the gt73 4k-22d starts at $2800 and has
4k gsync monitor with 100% adobe
    6820hk
    up to 64gb ram
    gtx 1080 or 1070 sli
2 pcie ssds slot/mechanical hdd slot
    mechanical keyboard

its kind of ugly looking lol but its a beast

best buy didnt have the 13, but they had a 13.3 hp with 1440p so should be similar text size. looks doable

Just called with dell, although the customer service in The Netherlands is very limited, the Dell representative was able to see that my order is delayed because the oled panel is out of stock. My guess is that panel manufacturer (probably LG) can't keep up with the rising demand of oled panels.

If I could, I would have done the same. unfortunately the new blade has yet to become available in the Netherlands. Razer still sells the 2015(pre-skylake) blade on the EU website which is overpriced and very outdated.
Thought about importing via HID but since the warranty isn't covered globally that's not really an option.

Build quality is waaay better on the 63 and it runs cooler, foot print is still very portable, just running an extended over the top stress test on it now, CPU maxed at 89c and GPU 74 after an hour of intel XTU & Heaven, I cant believe it but its better than my 17r4 was.... only thing that may be a let down is the battery life, If i can get a movie and some browsing until i need to plug in I'll be happy if not then maybe the AW15 with the 1060 and 99whr 1080p may be an option, its just they weigh a tonne!

That's what's good by having a forum and discussion about pros and cons. I never tried msi laptops but I had a couple of motherboards witch was very good.

I got 15% discount on my AW13 when I combined it with a credit card campaign, that's very cheap and 20% under a aorus, asus, msi etc. In the same range. In Norway dell is a affordable brand as the prices here is relative high. No other brands have the discount codes or any offer for that matter, therefore I would say 1900 usd for my system is very cheap. And on top of that it uses a far better display than the competition.

Really tempted to pull the trigger on the OLED aw 13. Works out at £1540 ish with accidental cover added and better WiFi card.
Said I should receive in 5 days but a bit dubious as others production dates have been changed.

Good deal and a great laptop in all probability

but... dont believe the EDD or ETD dates they are wrong as you will see here there are no OLED's even in production yet as they (AW) have a supply issue on them i believe someone has actually gone into the in production phase , but only with a 1080p

be prepared for a wait as there is no confirmation, the dates on the website keep slipping.

Yeah thought as much regarding the OLED panel. Adviser just said he would keep me updated with the latest tracking info...... Didn't explain into why the OLED have gone into production yet.
Still, seems a good price as was going for the 15 but not good comments on those really.

My m15x is still going strong, but need something more portable with a newborn in the house.

I can't speak towards the UK EDD, but I ordered my AW13 on Nov 1 almost moments after it became available and recieved an ETA of 11/28-12/6. Since then I have spoken to my rep and was informed the system would not go into production until 11/22. Around that date I was then updated that the production stage had started (not the actual assembly though). A parts hold was mentioned, but was advised that it would not delay the system. I have since received an update that the parts hold had been lifted and assembly will probably start shortly. Based on the updates I have received, I fully expect to receive my system by the ETA that was provided.

IMO, UK buyers got the shaft because the wrong expectations were set, not due to any part shortage.

I used cool labs on my p35x v3 and it dropped temps by loads. Stopped the throttling of the cpu and I was getting 9000 in firestrike which was great for that model. Two years minus 5 days later, my laptop died. Motherboard issue. Managed to get it replaced under warranty. Temps had been fine beforehand but I am left wondering about whether the repaste contributed to the demise of my machine. I have no info to prove either way, but I am going to stick to more conventional products in the future.

True, hope you get your system on time, can't wait to see the real temps on the 13.

I re pasted my msi today as I had to lift out the board anyway to upgrade the nvme ssd, so did it anyway.

Funny thing was that it was the same screw config on IHS as the Alienware's with 4 over the GPU and 3 over the CPU

Lots of people on Reddit screaming the 3 screw design was Alienware issue with crazy temp differences between cores, not so it would seem as my msi gs63 has the same with no more than 3c difference across all cores, and won't go above 85c/76c CPU/GPU

So it wasn't the screw design, be interesting to see if the 13 has the same issues

Little off topic but would you say the OLED premium is worth it (for the same money as) the aero 14?
Not entirely sure which way to go here. Need a portable to game anywhere but thinking is the oled panel really worth the premium?

definitely, better colors and less input lag. if anything id recommend the GIGABYTE P57Xv6-PC3D over the aero it gets you a 1070 instead and is on sale for $1499

Great link thanks, but in need of a really portable laptop hence the AW13 or aero.
    Great deal though.

Well....I caved in and canceled my 13r3 and re-ordered with a 15r3. Getting the 1070m, 4k Screen, and 6820HK for about the same end price...with the larger battery too and double the SSD (plus a 1TB storage drive). The value was just nice and with the IGZO 4k screen, I know it wont be the OLED but it will not be terrible either (had no issue with the IGZO screens in my M3800 and Blade). They also have a 4 yr support deal where it cost the same as the 3 year so that was a nice perk which I opted for.

I have seen rumblings about thermals on the 15 and 17 and have no reason to expect the 13 to behave different based on the designs from what I have seen in the service manuals. Should be something I can manage 100% with a re-paste and tweaking the screw tension and maybe some downclocking but will try hardware fixes first.

Went from a 11/29-12/7 window on the 13 to 12/2-12/5 with the 15 which is interesting. Wont be waiting on an OLED screen now :)

Woo-hoo! You got the same laptop I did! :) lol Hopefully it won't need a mod like the M17xR2s. Glad to see you still around Scook.

The design makes it tough to assemble with even pressure, and AW messed up by not establishing an acceptable reading on thermal results after assembly QA.

Most any design can be mis-assembled, some easier to mess up than others, which the 3 screw uneven pivot / lever arm qualifies :)

It's a matter of setting the QA acceptance parameters, and giving better training on assembly as to what is important technique method for assembly.

So, it's a fault in design - making it easy to assemble it with unbalanced performance, bad training for the assemblers - maybe even bad equipment that wouldn't allow them to measure required torque accurately, and poor QA acceptance standards - if any were even contemplated.

The other makes with core differential problems are also classifiable on the same points - with their failures few and far between - they must be doing some things better than AW :)

It will be interesting to see how many poorly assembled AW 13 CPU heatplates AW lets out the door to new owners.
