The prema vBios works just fine for my 17R2 but i have one problem:

As soon as i overvolt the GPU by +12mv or more, the physics score in 3DMark goes down and i can see some brakedowns in framerate during gaming. so the overvoltaging has a certain effect on my i7-4710hq. I tried undervolting the cpu by 50 and overvolting the gpu by 50 but the problem continues.

without overvoltaging of the gpu +180core and 280 memory is maximum. Temperatures are still below 70C so i wanted to raise the voltage. but its just not possible

    3dMark without overvoltage. 180core 280memory: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/9287895

    3dMark +25mv GPU: +200Core +300Memory: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/9264896

Maybe someone knows why my CPU behaves this strangely.

    Thanks a lot!

So... After lots of firestrike testing, etc.. My 980m tends to throttle, even at less than 70 degrees C. Im starting to think its more the power making it throttle and not the card itself as it doesnt throttle if i dont overclock it. Im using the 240w adaptor. Would i get more overclocking if i had the larger adaptor?

And how do i prove it is the power issue and not GPU issue?

I want to see this score too. Don't you have a 3Dmark account? You can find the link there.
I really don't believe this score.. especially with no over clocks.
Show tons of proof please :p

How do we resolve this. Many need the newer drivers for newer games. :(

I tried an older driver and it still throttles. Never gets to 80c. always throttles before it can manage to get that hot. around 73c? quite annoying. have managed to get some good scores though without it throttling. just think it could be alot more

It was introduced sometime after 347.88 IIRC.

Ok, so i didnt try one that old. If we are to use one that old, will it affect our gameplay and not be worth it or would it still be better because of further overclocking?

Just had a look. Dont think i can even get a driver that old for 980m

Sorry to disturb you Mr. Prema ,but could you perhaps also send me a copy of the vbios or bios you modded for the alienware 13 ,I would love to test it and provide feedback(if you want it) and would really really appreciate it as I had been trying to overclock the 860m over the 135mhz limit since I got my laptop I even extracted the vbios from the main bios and modded it(the links quoted on post no.185 are mine) but I just couldnt flash it because of signature issues, anyways I have a i7-5500u and maxwell 860m ,also I will provide whatever files you require, finally if you do not have the time for this please atleast tell me how to flash the modded bios or vbios...

Amateur question here. Will this vbios give any performance improvement to a vanilla configuration without overclocking? Also, if we want to update NVIDA drivers, should we do this before or after the vbios update? Thanks..

    Hi guys!

I tried to save my Vbios today in GPU-Z but it always says Bios reading not supported on this device?
Can i get past this somehow? I will feel alot safer if i have a original 980 rom if something was to happen with the flash ^^

You can backup your stock bios using NVFlash and the command line, disable the device first before trying to read it as it will not be detected

I bought the alienware graphics accelerator and a 980 ti. After installing it i ran firestrike and the computer bsod'd and I could never start the computer with 980ti again. Could using this vbios with the 980ti potentially brick the card ?

Sorry to hear that, but nope surely not a vBIOS issue. More likely a hardware issue...

Does somebody know why my CPU (4710hq) starts to throttle (Power Limit Throttling) as soon as I overclock my GPU (980M) higher than +100mhz core and +200mhz memory.

I use a 240W power brick and have no throttling at all as long as i dont overclock my gpu.

When i overclock my GPU i have throttling at only 20% CPU usage and my CPU clock goes down to 800MHZ. I do not understand that connection at all.

Maybe someone has encountered the same issue? I am on a 17R2 Alienware System.

That's the Dell system BIOS for you...
Certain BIOS versions show less of this CPU throttle than others, you will have to ask around...

Because the dGPU is disabled unless utilized. Just keep GPU-Z open in the background to activate it. ;)

This sadly does not work for me. As soon as i start a game with an overclocked GPU my CPU Frequency declines, althoug i have hardly any CPU usage. This results in stuttering and lower fps than on stock clocks.
GPU-Z in the background does not change that. I really dont get that CPU Frequency decrease.

I'm still getting pretty semi decent benchmarks on firestrike with the locked cap of 135 using nvidia inspector. But yeah would be great to see if prema worked with the 8gb

I used to have the same issue. What I did was download throttlestop and undervolt my cpu. Also turned down turbo boost to 3 instead of 3.5. Also making sure you run on high performance in all nvidia setting and power options is important

@sluggz: Thanks for the answer. I just got a new mainboard with a new gpu and cpu. The Cpu got too hot and i had throttling, so dell had to replace it with a new mainboard. The CPU throttling is gone, but I have a new problem ;-)

As soon as i go higher than +140mhz Core and 240Mhz Memory. My Nvidia Driver Crashes. I am using the newest driver 361.43. I tried it with more juice (+25mv-+50mv) but the driver still crashes. I removed the driver with DDU and made a clean installation of the driver, but it had no effect on the crashes. Maybe someone has an idea? Or is it depending on the gpu chip that you get. some can reach +200/+400 and some crash at +100/+200. so it is kind of a gpu lottery :) i am happy about any answer. thanks guys!

I can get 180/280 max while overvolting +12.5. All gpu's will vary at what they can and cant handle.

@sluggz: Thanks for the information, mate! My previous GPU also went up to 180/280 but i faced massive CPU throttling at this point. I am pretty content with stable 140 and 240 right now. Maybe some alterations can improve that. i'll try some random stuff.

Yea give throttle stop a try. If you undervolt your cpu and limit your turbo clocks to like 3.0 instead of 3.5, you can free up more power to use for the gpu. I am not an engineer but I tried this after having the same issues as you with the 4710hq, and it has worked perfectly.

With 140/240 my firestrike score looks like this: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/10266022
Sadly enough i cant play games with these settings. as soon as i overclock my gpu games crash (mortal kombat, assassins creed). They crash with stock bios and premas bios. i think i am pretty unlucky with the gpu i have right now. my previous 980m ran at 180/280 and no game crashed. but i faced cpu throttling, so i dell had to replace my mainboard. i am not so happy about that right now. maybe i'll try windows 10 and see if that changes something
