Bro @rinneh is a trustworthy brother. But 25w Package Power should not push any latop cooling to the edge. On top without load on GPU.

Keep coming with your excuses. Again first batch machines vs a machine that came off the assembly line more than a year later after they started using the correct pad thickness and revised their thermal paste. My temps climbed more than 15c from idle temps not 2. No idea where you base that 2C on. I dont care who you trust more. My point is you make baseless statements and i at least base them on something. That makes you a troll.

It reaches 32watt at most. So yeah it doesnt get pushed hard, fans barely running as well. While gaming the highest i reach is 80c in assassins creed origins which both stresses the cpu and gpu 100% thanks to denuvo and some other encryption based anti tamper software. In other games between 70c and 75c (rainbow six siege, bf1, overwatch).

Will still repaste. Lower temps mean better longevity.

who appointed you to be the judge here? share the info and let people here decide to take the risk or not. it's not up to you to choose who to share this info and quite frankly, the people you've chosen to share it with are the people who collude with you to make money or the people who paid you to have their laptop fixed. sharing partial info or rather the lack of info is only a lure and this is what everyone here should see and understand.

and which part of "i was told to keep this info to myself" do you not understand? or did i not make it clear if i shared the info with others, iunlock himself will be unhappy and upset. if i wasn't an honorable man like you, i would have shared this info with the public long time ago. but i choose to keep my promises and have a clear conscience. the same cannot be said about you when all you have is money in mind.

yes you desperately need some english lesson and it wouldnt hurt to go for maturity lessons. calling people childish here and there but the most childish and immature of all is actually yourself. if there is actually a childish trolling signature group, you are definately the FOUNDER.

and NO, u never once mentioned your guide is only a reference. it was only after i made public through my GPU stuttering thread warning people NOT to follow your guide blindly then you started acknowledging it.

i have extra heatsink to experiment and play around with, so snapping one off is no big deal. i even went as far as collecting heatsinks from older to latest revision to check if dell has fixed this issue and gladly share the info with everyone.

in general, opening the laptop to repaste is already a risk. it's up to the owner to choose what risk they wish to take, NOT you. who do you think you are? and where are we on being transparent? how much money have you made so far with your luring repasting service? did you not read this part from my previous post or did you conveniently choose to ignore it? if you are really that noble, be transparent with the info. pathetic.

    @Papusan

Ran prime to quickly test it. temps settled lower as they started out with. again because the fans do not kick in that quickly. Still only low RPM running fans. I ran it for 10 minutes because the temps where not going up at all after the first 30seconds. Package power was quite a bit higher compared to the TS benchmark test. Similar to Assassins Creed Origin's load on the CPU (no video game should pull that much).

@nedooo more reference material for you.

Wow once again in this and your previous post you are so wrong on so many levels it's rediculous and it would take me so long to pick you out on every point I really can't be bothered, people can judge for themselves. You really should be banned from this forum for being a troll, so sad...

Dude check the temps next to it while running. That spike is from before the fans kick in. Could just have reset the max temps in the middle of the run, but expected prople have brains and can read "current temps".

Again you seem to be a lame troll.

Last time I saw I7 7700HQ in reviews stress tested to max out at 63 degrees was...wait never. Even our beloved, holy, trustworthy @rinneh has added 6 degrees in few hours...just waiting proper stress test to see that 80 degrees...

I rely on quite few recognised reviews as I said. And I am yet to see those temps on any stressed out 7700HQ in any reliable review...

blind huh > current temps? also again tests from 1 year ago when they just released the damn laptop and one that was manufactured last week after all the feedback? You got some selective reading problems.

Specially for you a second run of 10 minutes, HWinfo on the front to show temps which i started just after the fans started spinning.

Why I post it again? To show others that the 10c+ core differences are probably fixed for now. Reviews of older machines are just not a good representation. As you can see the review on notebookcheck was from February 2017, which was just at the time where Alienware stated they where fixing things.

The second review they did on the 7820HK version with 1080max Q did not mention the temperature issues. In fact they mention this "The Alienware 15 R3 model that we have already tested had a big problem with temperatures and system noise, which was connected to the CPU heating up irregularly. This did not occur in our current test unit and the cores heated up evenly.".

Is notebookcheck reputable enough for you?

@rinneh and @nedooo I'm not sure who's arguement this supports but hopefully it will end it. So here are my results from a unit I recently repasted for another member under the same controlled conditions from testing a 15 R3 with a 7700HQ:

Bone stock with TS tuning, -150mV UV holding 3.4GHz:
    15mins OCCT - 72C (I've seen higher) and 11C difference
    [IMG]

As much stress testing as I can muster on CPU! - 79C
    [IMG]

    30mins BF1 1080p Ultra - 79C
    [IMG]

Then repasted with LM and a few hours of balancing the heatsink:
    15mins OCCT - 58C with 1C difference:

As much stress testing as I can muster on CPU! - 68C
    [IMG]

    90mins BF1 1080p Ultra - 65C and a GPU OC tuned to +200/400
    [IMG]

    Sorted :)

Sadly same goes for the "official" 17R4 thread, which has become a neverending rant and whining fest against BGA and Dell/Alienware as if it was the only manufacturer doing BGA nowadays  (Razer is even soldering the RAM in the new Blade!!!!). People asking for advice are shamed for buying "crap BGA" and fed with benches and screenshots from different laptop/brands which are not even relevant to the topic. Hell, there are more non-owners active in this thread than people actually having the related laptop...

I really don't care if anyone is making money out of repasting. So what : it's obviously becoming a thing now as almost all resellers propose this service for a wide variety of brands. What I know is I successfully repasted my laptop several times, all by myself, without any issues, and the tutorial here on NBR was a great help. I would never have tried without it. As a remider that you can achieve good temps : http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...4-owners-lounge.797457/page-741#post-10655661.

We all agree that 17R4 lauch was catastrophic but newer units are quite good right out of the box now.

I just have an even heatsink out of the box, no need to repaste/repad if you run it at stock vs Pete light his OC on GPU. I again got proof to back my statements up. What do you have? Nothing. Not even owning one of these laptops, just butting in. So who is the troll?

I provided you with screenshots in 2 different applications, presented with the settings of my CPU. Even took the time to take a photo with a camera so you could see the images are not doctored. Just stay away.

You're so far off of the rabbit trail that this thread is becoming more of a toxic pit than anything. See, mature people would not be doing what you're doing so all this weightless stuff you're doing to bring on more pollution is only revealing your immaturity.

Nothing that you are saying makes any sense nor are your cheap shots any true so just drop it already. That'd be the smart thing to do. I'm only replying to put yourself in your place at your pace, because the more you go on the more people will see how much of an attention freak you really are for thinking you're so much better than everyone else with all the answers to everything. Me, me, me, I, I, I... Good grief.

From what we can tell all you're doing is trying to build up yourself in a very teenage like way and we can see right through you with all the false accusations. People who do this are very insecure about themselves. That's basic psychology 101 and you've checked all the boxes to meet several conditions. It's text book.

All you're doing is bringing more toxicity to these forums and getting nowhere with it.

You're not making any sense at all and have already become a major laughing stock to the many who can see what's going on here. Save yourself the embarrassment. Really.

When a crack at someone backfires on you... Ex. You're telling me to get English lessons, yet you can't even capitalize your words or have any structure in your sentences? That is very lame and so much so that these cheap shots are exactly proportional to everything that is false about your failed attempts of talking rubbish that is absolutely empty.

Why don't you look below to see one of the many examples of how the guide has been helpful. Proving you wrong again...

There are many things you'll never understand, because you can't even understand the basics. It'd be complete lost cause.

Very true and very sad indeed. For people who don't even own the laptop and are out to bash others who come here looking for help is pretty pathetic. This place is getting more and more toxic by the day.

Glad the guide has helped and it's nice to see level headed people around here like yourself that can see through all of this mess.

What I find to be a bit funny is that the openings post claims that most if not all have these temperature issues. But the first out of the box that I receive for my self is within 5c. My friends 17R4 from January 2017 is within 5c and I see more and more posts on reddit saying they have no issues.

People should keep in mind that it is human nature to complain, people tend to post less about positive experiences. Up to 100 posts on a forum regarding these issues is in no way enough data to state that all current machines have these issues.

Above 30~35c is outside of the laptop operating spec according to the manual (not only with alienwares) so in that case support will not even help you. But yeah i use my laptop always between 22c and 25c.

When I was in Japan in my case the fans would just spin faster to cool it down. My fan noise is really low, but the overal temps where not much lower. At most 5C. but that is with ambient temps of 26~28c. Japan is not as hot compared to India I think.

The bigger problem is that your abttery already degrades even when not running because of those temps. Manufacturers should account for that more that not all countries have equal climates. Current lithium Ions already degrades slowly at 29c.

I found a workaround for battery problem. After heavy battery usage, shut down the PC and let it cool for half an hr or so and then charge it offline and you'll see there's no increase in wear level.

Yeah. AW fans won't turn on at all even after reaching 80C sustained temps and only starts at 90C, so CPU perf. mode forces the fans at 70C.

Hi all, I received a replacement heatsink because my cpu has been getting too hot and the temps haven't been stable. The replacement heatsink is a model 0FRPY8 CCI Rev. 1. Does anyone have experience with this particular model? Should I bother trying it or call dell and ask them to send me a sunon?

    thanks in advance.

unfortunately, you will never get to choose which manufacturer's heatsink get sent to you. it's a draw of luck because both Sunon and CCI carry the same part number. From my experience, saying Sunon is better than CCI is plain BS and same goes to the other way round. They both inherit the same manufacturing flaws, or more specifically, design flaw with the weak tripod CPU tension arm. the part number you have is the latest, but still nothing has changed or improved.

can you take a picture of the heatsink and also the part number?

You really make a lot of unproven assumptions in your post to be honest.

there is no assumption. you are just the extremely rare lucky few to have little core temperature differential. besides you dont have an unlocked CPU so this is something you can't understand. how many heatsinks have you dealt with?

@rinneh is very lucky indeed. He just repasted his older PC just once whereas I had to repaste it several times and even repad it.

couldn't agree more. i have went through more than 15 heatsinks from various different revisions from the earliest to the most recent and getting laptops from different periods (months apart). there is just no improvement at all which is really unfortunate. there is a lot to love about this laptop, cpu cooling is just not one of it.

15 HSF replaced? You should have got a new system as per Dell Rules, correct?
I just called them thrice for repairs and after seeing horrible repairs, I fix it myself these days.

I have repasted various Alienware machines (next to other laptops) for the people where I work, my friends, colleagues etc. Also the Alienware 17 R4's with 1080GTX's. Never a 15R3 though, so I am curious if there are differences between the 17 and 15 inch versions beause I see people taking the fan shroud of instead on the 15 compared to the whole heatsink when repasting the 17.

I could compare the Skylake vs kaby lake versions. The latest models I saw could run hot, but no large uneven core differentials. 4c at most which are values I also see on non "tripod" heatsinks including my older Alienwares that I used, Asus laptops etc. The Skylake had the most that I repasted, but for that one we also ordered a new heatsink with the right thermal pad sizes.

Also as I stated before that people with issues are far more likely to post about it than people that have a perfect machine (why would they post and visit a forum like this apart if the person is interested in laptops in general?). So your statement that almost all have these flaws is just based on nothing. Sales numbers are in the hundreds of thousands over the lifetime of a product cycle. If all these would be actually flawed would be a huge scandal. Which it isnt. It is contained.

It is true there are variations in QC that should not be there. Alienware also should stop using multiple manufacturers for the same parts because it makes the inconsistencies even bigger if they are present. In my experience CCI heatsinks are indeed not the best out there. Had 2 heatsinks for my previous AW15R2 and the lesser one was definitely the CCI heatsink, not only in terms of performance but also fit and finish. Ended up with a 7C core differential while there were 4 screws around the CPU and GPU die. The variation was caused because of poor manufacturing tolerances. The other one I could not find any branding on but I suspect it was a FCN made heatsink.

Also the Sunons that I saw in 17R4's performed better overall. My came with a CCI by the way, I dont think Sunon makes them for the AW15R3's as well.

I simply cannot believe you went through 15 heatsinks and that they were all faulty. I would look at the motherboard than instead. My first Alienware had a bit off center heatsink mounting frame which caused as you could guess improper heatsink contact (I can dig up some photos about that for later).

I repasted it multiple times to test various past and swapped out the heatsink once. In my experience a lot that repaste (not saying that you did that) also do it wrongly, tightening the screws on one side first for example. Or using thick thermal paste without spreading it first creating uneven pressure already even before screwing down the heatsink. With ICD7 I always put the tube first in hot water. Made the paste far more soft, small drop on the die, even it out with an old creditcard and in the end perfect results everytime. I owned more than 5 laptops the past 10 years as daily drivers and tested double the amount of that. Cant be just luck everytime. The worst laptops that I ever used where Gigabyte laptops and I returned those, funny detail is that all those are recommended on review sites.

You are better off with complete disassembly like Echo models. When you remove only heatsink you might damage the board if you mess up. Some screws might be absent on 15" and disassembly should more or less be similar like 17s..

My thought process behind it was that I dont want to stress all those motherboard connectors. Also those fan connectors look very fragile. Have never broken those but still. Didnt want to take the risk. So I was thinking to just carefully remove the fanshroud because of that.

I have a fresh tube of Phobya nano grease extreme to use so I am dying to know how much of an improvement it makes.

Also I wonder how many are fooled by HWinfo regarding peak temps. I saw a peak once to 80c once while gaming. But upon inspection I only saw that peak before the fans kicked on. So the average under load was a lot lower and around 75c during 100% cpu and GPU load in Assassins Creed Origins (that game is stressing my laptop the most).

HWINFO works perfectly, its AW fan profile which responds late. Mine hits 87C on stock fan this month and changing to aggressive fans it will be below 80C all the time.
Phobya will reduce temps by another 5-7C.
