If I may ask, what do you mean by this and its relation to the topic at hand?

You mentioned that loading up a game or GPU intensive application was still having an impact on battery life and I was explaining why, even if the EC was having issues with power control it acts separately from that so it is not surprising.

Oh okay, I see what you mean.
It would be understandable that the battery life would be impacted, but batterybar and windows, as inaccurate as it may be, showed the same battery consumption, which what confused me.

Guys believe it or not, but my ghosting has dropped compared to when I did the testing immediately after I got it. It actually dropped significantly. almost 50% of the trail is gone. It's still there but less noticeable. Don't know why though.

Well I just found something out. the 13 uses a 13.3" version of the AW15 display, and since we know there isn't ghosting on that display, then the problem shouldn't lie be due to the panel anymore.
So it's either the iGPU or the computer (I say computer because Meaker brought something up that I could never think of).
Did you do any updates or anything?

I did a clean install with all the new drivers and bios update, I also remember testing it after that, it was still present. But now I can see it's less. Like I said I have no clue.
I did change the colors of the screen a little. lowered gamma to 0.9 and did raise the saturation by 30, but it's hard to believe that that would lower the ghosting

Is there any ghosting on the 4K True Life panel, or should I downgrade my order to FHD instead. I see people here mention True Life, does that name alone make any difference?

The 4K panel seems to be unaffected, but the 1080p panel on the AW15 is affected.

I would not say all 1080p screens are affected because I have little to no ghosting present on my 1080p screen. Hard to tell what is causing the issue for people

From the 2 second videos I have seen, doesn't look like ghosting to me. Ghosting usually has a blurry like trail that is very close together. Look to me more like some other kind of image lag, appears to me to be large evenly spaced and prominent

Laptop screens simply aren't very good at all. Even 4K screens have a whole lot of problems such as very poor color reproduction. There are a lot of flaws associated with the IPS technology, and the ones that go in laptops fall way short of quality desktop monitor. But even my Dell U2711 has ghosting and backlight bleeding. For now I accept is as a flaw inherent to the technology.

I don't intend to play a lot of FPS games on my upcoming 15, so I don't care that much. If it's due to some software issue I really hope it gets fixed though.

Also, I've always seen tons of ghosting on any Diablo kind of game I have played, be it Diablo, Torchlight, Titan Quest or others. I don't understand why someone is hailing this as "proof" of a problem with the specific display used here. If anything, I think this panel is among the best IPS panels for laptops, not that it is saying much.

The ghosting issue is a bit weird. On the affected screens, it'll either be there or it won't. I was just on a plane ride, and didn't experience any ghosting. The only thing different I did was disable touch. Could have gotten 7 hours of battery life as well.
    And power consumption was variable.

Well you can only disable touch if you have a touchscreen (but you wouldn't be asking that if you didn't have the touchscreen).
Obvious aside, go into device manager. Click on Human Interface Devices, and disable HID -compliant touch screen.

I think this ghosting thread is blown out of proportion. With IPS you will get some ghosting over a TN panel, that is just a fact. Likely that some people only just noticing it, and for everyone else likely seem fine that it is the inherent association with an IPS panel.

Apart from the supposed "ghosting" issue, what is the quality of the panel like?

I can't say it is not blown out of proportion seeing as my m14xR2 and m15x, both that have had IPS and the former of which I have used for long duration on battery, never had any signs of ghosting. It is very much clear on my 13 with 1440p that there's ghosting (well, flickering to be more accurate), but it's good that it does not appear every time.
I'm not sure how prevalent the ghosting issue on te AW15 with 1080p, but it gets bad with the 13 with 1440p fast.

I getting the feeling one or two certain standards have dropped, but a whole bunch of them. Even the sales rep I am dealing with has gone strange just after I had ordered only 2 days ago. Almost like cash in hand, to bad about you now, anything you request from here on in is to bad. I think the customer service is slipping too.

Wow, I'm super disappointed in Dell/Alienware. I sent my laptop in due to the unplayable levels of "ghosting/artifacts." (unplugged weirdly isn't effected) I typed a two page letter discussing all of my troubleshooting attempts, and told them it is either a GPU or display error. I received the 15 back today, and the d**n ghosting is still super visible. They replaced the display, and the screen now has very noticeable yellow backlighting. In my letter, I specifically asked them to examine the display (if replaced) to ensure no light bleed. I also informed them of the wireless card's 10 second reconnection time, upon waking from sleep mode and that electrical current/coil-like noise which occurs upon fan start up. Neither of these two issues were attended to. It is just mind blowing that they would a. use a poor replacement screen and b. they couldn't even be bothered to start up any game (i even mentioned areas where the phenomenon is clearly shown). Upon calling them, I mentioned the 10 tech support calls on various issues and 7 + grand that I have invested in their company (see sig). I was told that I couldn't receive a new laptop due to it being past 30 days and you also have to send your laptop in 3 times before you rate a new product exchange. How in God's name can their techs be so lackluster with their QA product inspections.

By the way, where is ol' rep. L Porras on this issue? Scurried up in a corner, avoiding providing a solution/explanation?

Why did you send your laptop in? All alienwares come with next day in home support.

A tech will come out to your house and replace the screen and you can check it right then and there.

4 year all inclusive. they said when it could be multiple issues that it is best to send it in for inspection (little good that did). I believe the on site techs basically only see to hardware issues, and they thought that it might have been a software issue. He/She is bringing another display and motherboard, next week.

Wow, my 15 is still doing that ghosting effect. I have sent it in to the dell repair office, which replaced the display. Now a on-site tech replaced the motherboard and a second display, and the ghosting is still occurring. Dell is trying to get it sent back in to the repair location, but hopefully I can bully into sending me a new unit. What else could they possible replace?

@Alienware-L_Porras is there any update to this? I am experiencing this one two systems I purchased. One is mine the other one is for my bosses son. You said back in Feb and you would keep pressing this. What was the result of the meetings and the engineers? Please help us!

ZZZZZzzzz Why are all the Ghosting threads now dead. We had responses from the rep and now nothing. This is crazy!

@zachary77 What happened with your unit? Ever get this resolved?

I would like to know this to. If the Alienware 17 doesnt have this issue I want a 17in.

They sent a tech, first, and eventually sent me a replacement laptop. It actually was due to a faulty hard drive and not a screen issue. The new setup is working great.

Please explain... You say your ghosting issue was caused by a faulty hard drive. For give me if I sound off a bit but that doesn't make much sense lol. Perhaps something else was the cause and the who system being replaced solved the issue. :)
Please confirm as this issue is driving me nuts.
So you have a 1080p screen now with zero ghosting. (or the amount expected from a IPS LCD)?

    Thank you for your reply!

Yea, it was an aftermarket Samsung 850 evo which was giving me issues. It eventually died, in the replacement laptop, and the secondary aftermarket M.2 drive ended the screen artifacts. I kinda felt bad for bringing the heat with the techs, and demanding a new laptop, as it was my purchased parts that were causing the issue.

Now you got me all types of confused. Ghosting / Trailing = low response times usually. Which is 100% different from artifacting etc. Can you confirm your symptoms when you were experiencing problems?

I still experience this with the 1080p display. I'm beginning to think its the LCD that simply is lower quality and has a high response time. :(
Anyone here have any info on this?

One thing I think would be helpful is for people to post which screen they have when they report ghosting issues. It's clear it is the 1080p screen, but there are two models in use on the AW15.

There is a Samsung and an LG. I strongly suspect one has the ghosting and one does not, which would explain why some people have it and some don't.

My suspicion is that the Samsung has the issue and the LG does not, as LGs are generally well liked on other computers.
