I don't really think you could "fake" this video, commentary is by same people and all. Sounds awesome. I'm thinking: i7 Broadwell + 970M/980M + 1080p IPS panel (4K overkill for me) = instabuy!!
Thoughts? Pretty sure this is legitimate although its funny to only see it from this one random channel. Only thing that is odd is that the 15 does not have a numpad... time will tell if this is real or not, until then... HYPEEE
Edit Looks like the Alienware 15 add is real and can be seen here on Alienware's channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtrTZJijlsE
Specs and further information is also available on the Alienware's website (there is also a new Alienware 17 for those interested): http://www.dell.com/ca/p/alienware-15/pd?ref=PD_OC

It's a real video. It was taken from Dell's site. Sooner or later, this video will be taken down.

I don't know why you're giving them your money when they've basically shot their customers in the foot with this desktop amp BS. Building a desktop would be a hell of a lot cheaper. Probably the same portability now too.

Really, tone down the temper. I know people are upset, but let's not make people feel bad.bumbo2 and Th4tRedhe4d like this. -
Even the smallest desktop computer will not really compare to a laptop in my opinion (in terms of utility), until the day comes that desktops have built in keyboards, mice and monitors I will see the fair discussion... but then is it still a desktop? I buy laptops for portability and on the go work that a desktop cannot offer. To say that you can build a desktop for cheaper with same performance is true, but I don't buy a laptop for maximum performance at the cheapest price, I buy laptops for portability and the most power I can get with minimal compromises.Last edited: Jan 6, 2015zombiegoat likes this. -
I apologize, I'm not mad, I just don't understand the point of this. It doesn't make sense to me. Why would you want to tick off your consumer base? and I agree it's an interesting avenue to have. No problem with that. But when you make it you're only avenue, I think that's what really makes people upset. And we should be allowed to be upset. You, me, and everyone else here has shelled out hard earned money for their products. I, along with many others feel offended by their choice to gimp their products, unless you buy this OTHER thing from them now.

Guys, I was looking for a thread for the new 15 - similar to what we already have on the 13 but cant find one.
Please delete this thread if it is duplicate.
Anyone has got news on when the 15 is coming out and what CPUs are going to be included? I was hoping for Broadwel. -
I don't really see why it would tick off people, its an extra, you don't have to buy it. What is the problem? -
Nice leak, definitely real video, waiting for specs now, though 1080p screen will be good enough for me at 15 inch screen size.

I know! If you look at the end when they show the "Command Center 4.0" when they go to the tab showing the specs of the notebook you will see that an i7 is listed as well as a 980M! Let's hope its realtinker_xp likes this. -
Whoaa! Nice catch dude! I don't even realized that. Thanks for telling.

This video is abit Vague, they're not saying whats in it or whats different or really showing us much at all, i think it was just a trailer for expeimentation. I am sure Alienware is still clogged up with issues on the display technology they need to develop inhouse for the graphics adapter. It takes years to innovate something like that and work flawlessly. This is most likely why they have stalled for so long.
But, give them 6 months to a year and they probably WILL have something neat to release, but who knows at what cost.
I say this is minimum 6 moths away.
Everytime we see a new alienware laptop, is usually 6 months to a year further away. They usually reveal these sort of things with ALOT of promoting aheadof time, and releasing demos everywhere. So, more then likley this is about a year away, imo. By then we should be another tick tock away from alienware's current laptops. -
Anyways, who knows, if you are not happy with Alienware or whatever that is your choice. I am excited for the 15 and I hope it is as good as I think it will be -
Point being, it's Alienware's choice to lock customers out of upgrading their own property.
EDIT It's good you're excited though. I am genuinely happy for you. But what sort of a fellow community member would I be if I weren't warning you of these things -
i'd say alienware is as you can buy mxm capable cards from other manufacturers. But it's not just alienware.. It's Nvidia, It's Intel.. Nobody seems focused on Pc gaming at the moment. It's weird. Intels trying to make everything thin n light, Nvidia is in love with their shield.. I feel left out lol.

But according to this site ( Dell Alienware 15: Notebook mit R9 M295X und GTX 965M )
So there will be a TONGA XT GPU option  (In the above mentioned link they say that AMD has mentioned that there will be a R9 M295X in the AW 15)
And the Video from the news was taken from here ( Alienware 15: Up Close | Dell UK )
So why should Alienware make a video, post it on its own website if there were no AW 15?
Really like the M15 so far, and the graphics amplifier makes this laptop really future proof  -

Wow, AW, please release it this year!
We should create a poll about its potential pricing lol
@Game7a1
Do you still want to buy that 13" crap after this video? -
@ Persistent : The 13 is not crap! Some people need higher mobility, and thats where the 13 beats the 15!
Of course it has a weaker CPU (ulv) but it definitely is not crap!MikeTheVike likes this. -
I'm also not too heavy of a gamer, and battery life is a priority for me. The 13 does what I want well and probably the best given what I could choose form. Just because it has a ULV CPU doesn't mean it won't be satisfactory. -

friggin garbage is what I say if this is true. -
Personally I'm not a fan of using the alienware 15 with a graphcis amplifier (yet). if it really has the 980m, it's almost as strong as the 970 GTX. which will keep you going for some while.
Because I think the Drivers are going to be an issue on this laptop. You cannot have a different driver for a desktop GPU and a mobile GPU both installed on your PC. So you will have to wait for a driver release of dell on their driver page, which is always WAAY outdated, not being able to use a your GPU optimized for the latest releasing games.
Though since the graphics amplifier, gets more widespread (like msi also implementing it now). Perhaps nvidia will release an hybrid driver. So by the time your 980M cannot keep up anymore, and perhaps better drivers are available, there will probably already new Desktop GPU's lineups availabe. And when you buy the a new desktop GPU then, it would be more interesting I think.
But like I said, at the moment totally not into the Graphcis amplifier concept. As the idea that there are currently 980M sli 17 inch/ 18 inch machines being build being a lot stronger than any GPU in the graphics amplifier today, sets me off. -
Everyone is all caught up on gpu and cpu.... I noticed the nice tactx keys to the left of the keyboard
I am excited to see what they have coming out, while I wont be getting a new one anytime soon due to having to get a macbook for school. Its nice to know that by the time I am ready to order up a new one, they should have all the kinks worked out.
I think the GA is alot like the m11x, at first you had to manually switch to the 335m, then optimus came along and it was buggy as hell in the r2, then they smoothed it out and released the r3. The m11xr3 was a beast of a computer... the new 13 is even more of a beast than the m11x was in its day. By the time I am back ready to buy, the systems should be very good and work well. -

Looks like the 14 is gone for good. Will have the 13, 15 and 17 and/or 18.
-
This lineup won't last. The M15x was dead after the first revision (R2). It killed 17" laptop sales.
It looks like Alienware is now focused on designing cheap, disposable systems, which are obsolete the moment they come out. A lot of manufacturers began to take this route, but I never expected Alienware to follow. I thought Alienware was a leader in this industry, but I suppose I was wrong.
If the 980M is offered in this machine, it won't do very well under pressure. You guys hoping for it should analyze the cooling system. It will cool very similarly to the Gigabyte P34. Combined with Alienware's crappy fan profiles, there's a good chance this laptop (being thinner) will run warmer than we expect.ayylmao likes this. -
I just realy don't understand why brands like MSI, Razer and Alienware are using resolutions higher than 1080P on their laptops. It just doesn't make any sense at all. Screen is too small and GPU('s) are too weak. Waste of resources. Also the lack of a numpad seems pretty stupid.
iPhantomhives and TBoneSan like this. -
They are putting too much faith into this Graphics Amplifier. It will bankrupt them if they aren't careful. They're trying to make the Graphics Amplifier a necessity, misleading all of their customers by showing performance (in videos and charts) with the Graphics Amplifier attached. People will purchase their laptops and realize, "I can't even play at 20 FPS on this high res display, what the hell?" and they'll return their laptop. People don't want to be forced to buy something in addition to their laptop to be able to game. That's like buying a car and later being forced to purchase an air conditioner. I think it will bite them in the butt later on.
Do they really believe everyone will spend an additional $700~$1000 for some external graphics dock to be able to play games at high resolution on a laptop? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. The Graphics Amplifier should be treated as an accessory, not a primary component to performance. -

Wow, what a lack of trust in the Alienware engineering team in this thread.
I like what I see so far, I'll get the i7, 1080p version btw -
It may seem that way. But for good reason. Trust is something that can't be given out freely, it needs to be earnt. Having said that I wouldn't trust any business has my best intentions at heart.

I'm sure Dell (now being private) has basically forced Alienware to make these changes. But it's still a bunch of crap. It seems whomever is in charge at Alienware doesn't have the balls to stand up to Michael Dell and explain to him how they're losing loyal customers because of the way they're changing the brand.ayylmao likes this. -
And why so much hate towards egpu solutions. In esswnce they are great and with decent quad core it will prolong system usability quite alot. You dont uave to take it if you dont want.

Look like AW15 will be showcased with AMD GPU at CES, just saw this press release:
CES 2015: AMD to showcase new APU and GPU products and technologies
Press release; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 6 January 2015]
AMD is planning to showcase products powered by the latest AMD accelerated processing unit (APU), Radeon graphics processing unit (GPU) technologies, and embedded designs.
AMD's first high-performance system-on-a-chip (SoC) and next-generation mobile APU codenamed Carrizo will be showcased. Expected in market by mid-year, Carrizo has been designed with support for next-generation APIs such as DirectX 12, OpenCL 2.0, and the forthcoming Windows 10 operating system.
AMD will also be demonstrating Ultra HD gaming devices using AMD Radeon R9 graphics and AMD Eyefinity technology including the Apple iMac with Retina display and the new Alienware 15 notebooks with Ultra HD display support powered by new AMD Radeon R9 M295X graphics.
AMD and its technology partners will present new consumer and commercial client computing experiences at CES for work and play, including AMD Face Login and AMD Gesture Control. -
So, AMD finally released something to compete with the 780M? Wait, what? Isn't the 980M out?
These guys need to stop fiddling around with 28nm.maxheap likes this. -
M295x literally scores below 970m (forget about comparing to 980m) in most benchmarks... AW gotta get their together and get a working 980m in their laptops, I mean it has been 3 months since MSI started selling 980m.. What in the world is going on with AW??

Alienware's new laptops are thinner and more powerful, but maybe not enough | PCWorld -
Hmmm.... I see the new 17, style wise, it has some nice things.
Really there are only 4 things I like on the new design and 4 that I dont.
- Added tactx keys to the left of the keyboard
- GA dock plug
- Rounded back corners
- thinner
Things I dont like
- lost dvd drive
- alienfx lights no longer wrap around bottom
- palmrest is a sea of plain black, needs a keyboard bezel, or the nifty silver top part the aw17r1 has
- looks like only 2 headphone jacks?
I guess specs are really needed along with a teardown video/pictures to see whats going on under the hood. -
This alienware 15 is exactly what I want except for it not being 14 inch, and the best available CPU being 4710hq for it. but instead you get a frikken 980M and a 4K display.
Though want to know if one of the audio ports has spid/f. -
