    Hello,

I need help with my Dell Vostro 1500 and windows XP. When I purchased my Dell, Vostro business OS was installed on the machine, after a month I removed it and installed windows XP professional instead. (Windows Vista ran without incident, but I had to remove it due to software incompatibility.)

Since the initial XP install, I have had to reinstall windows XP three times after XP had assorted disk related issues. The latest issue the loss of my Window user profile. I tested my hard drive and it appears to be working correctly but I am suspicious after having three corruptions.

I have never had a Dell computer not work with XP, but I wonder if some of the newer machines have hardware which works better with Windows Vista?

    Anyone else have this issue?

    Thanks

I currently have an Inspiron 1520 that is running Windows XP Professional fine, and the Inspiron 1520 is the same as a Vostro 1500, just the consumer version not the business one. What are you using to test your hard drive? If it's dell's built in tool, I wouldn't trust it - I've seen several drives pass Dell's test but fail GWscan or the manufacturer's tools.

I bought my Vostro 1500 with Win-XP. Then, I have installed Vista. Both of them worked without any issues. You must have some driver problems. Make sure you have installed the latest Intel chipset and IDE/SATA drivers for Windows XP.

Ah yeah - are you using the laptop in IDE/ATA mode, or have you slipstreamed in AHCI drivers?
