Because I use my laptop literally as a laptop, my Microsoft Windows Vista license sticker has been worn beyond recognition, ie: I couldn't re-install MS Windows even if I wanted to, because the paper has been abraded to such an extent that the license key is no longer legible.

I have another year left on my Dell CompleteCare on a Latitude D830 laptop.

Is this an item that Dell would replace under warranty or under CompleteCare?

HCW, with what license codes? Getting my hands on Vista distribution media isn't a problem (reinstall will be with Vista64 anyways, since I upgraded to 4gb RAM). But my license ID is completely obliterated, and the installer requires that you enter the codes.

Call up and Dell and they might be able to pull up your OEM licence from your service tag. Its only like 20 characters anyway.

I think he was referring to the fact that in most cases, the Dell-branded Vista recovery disks will read your license information from the BIOS and never actually require you to input the key printed on the sticker.
