Windows OS COA sticker?

    Just noticed that my scartch and dent E6500 doesn't have a sticker.
    I was going to create a bootable XP disk and apparently I need that COA number to do so?

    Do the Dells not normally come with this sticker?

    Did you remove the battery and look there :)

    Also you can just use the xp disk that came with the laptop, no key needed.

    I want to partition my hard drive for dual boot and start fresh.

    The disk you get from Dell an OEM installation disk, not a recovery disk or a disk image. So yes, it will give a clean install.

    Ah, okay!

    Do I desperately need any of the Dell software (I'm new to OS installation) or are the drivers enough?

    Besides the drivers, a lot of the software like the Control Point stuff is optional. Most people seem to agree that some of the stuff is pretty buggy and not terribly useful, so you may be better off not installing it.
