I plan on buying a Vostro 1310/20 or Latitude E4300 from the outlet after the Windows 7 free upgrade date (June 28th I believe). Will Windows 7 be a free upgrade for outlet purchases? I know it will be free for new computer purchases. This laptop will be used for graduate school.

Really yuio? What's taking Lenovo so long?

I actually have a question about the graphics in these laptops. Will the Intel 4500 MHD be effective for multitasking, watching the occasional DVD, video streaming? I usually have Firefox, Word, Thunderbird, iTunes, and maybe another office app running simultaneously. I currently have a 4-year old IBM ThinkPad T43 (2Ghz Pent M, 1gb mem, 80 gig harddrive, some sort of ATI graphics) running XP Professional.

Yep, the 4500 MHD is perfect for those tasks, you'll also get better battery life on the same machine than if you went with a dedicated card. :)

Don't see why you shouldn't be eligible. You are buying a laptop with Vista after the specified date... who cares if it's refurbished? You may want to check with Dell or Microsoft, though.

It will. None of those tasks require anything more than the most basic GPU.

no, I'm still waiting for my "express Vista upgrade" that I was supposed to get more than 2 years ago with the Purchase of the Acer Ferrari 5000 (which was lemon). The reason I posted that, was to tell you that just because they give you the paper work stating that you can get it for free... doesn't mean your going to get it.

the X4500 is a great GPU for all of those task, getting the Intel IGP will amost double your batterylife. I get ~6hours with my T500. maybe consider a T400(a little smaller but the same guts).

I was thinking about going with Lenovo again and looked at the U330 (really want something more portable than my T43), but Dell seems like the better value.

Good point on the upgrade. I'm a senior at UNC (soon to be grad stud here), so if dell stiffs me on the upgrade, I'm sure Windows 7 will be available through the university at some point. I'm just worried about having to stay on Vista for too long.

The 4500MHD will be more than enough. That chip was a huge step up for intel interms of graphics.
