    Hi All,

Am new here, but have been reading this most useful forum for a good while.

I have a question as per thread subject. I have an issue with my E6510 that requires me to re-install Windows 7 Pro x64, the OS it was shipped with but I cannot get to the factory restore option, so will have to re-install with the Windows 7 Pro x64 disc.

Is it OK to do this, will it void my warranty?

Apologies if this has been asked before in another thread, but wanted to know specific to my system.

    Kind regards,

    Mike

    Hello,

First of all, you do what you want with your system !

If you wish, you can install Debian or even Ubuntu, the warranty has nothing to do with the OS installed.
The warranty is only applicable on the hardware part.

But one thing is sure, if you have an issue and if the Dell technician think that this is due to an OS related problem, it will ask you to reinstall it (I don't know is you see why I try to mean^^).

Dell will even ship you OS discs if you contact them if needed.

For the most part, you can do anything to a Dell machine, as long as your modifications aren't the cause of the damage, Dell doesn't void your warranty. Example, replacing your ram or hdd won't void your warranty. Spilling your drink inside the machine while swapping the hard drive, may void your warranty. :)
