Which one of these two configurations would you recommend?

    Hello,

I am undecided between the two laptops that I have attached their quotes. One is the M6600 and the other one is M6700. The configuration for both is pretty much the same except for the CPU and Graphic Cards. I have to choose between the two. I am going to use the workstation for 3D CAD modeling mainly.

Could you tell me which one is better over the other one?

    Thank you,

    Kam

None really, I've just purchased this from the Dell Outlet Store.. Which comes in at $1600

    Precision M6700 Laptop English Windows® 7 Professional 1 1,025.13 £
    Precision M6700 Laptop
    Battery : Primary 9-cell 97W/HR
Display : 17.3 Inch UltraSharp FHD(1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit Premium Panel Guarantee
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-3720QM (2.60GHz Turbo, 6MB, Upgradable to Intel® vPro™ technology)
    8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz Memory (2 DIMMs)
750 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro K3000M with 2 GB GDDR5
    English Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64 Bit)
    Certified Refurbished

Memory and HDD I'll upgrade outside of Dell because they are always cheaper. I'm using the above for Adobe Photoshop/LR and Premiere so will use the Nvidia Cuda cores.

Does your CAD package support the ATI card for acceleration?

    Thanks for the reply.

I only have the option between these two configurations since this is a corporate purchase.
SolidWorks supports both graphic cards. I think it also supports ATI but not sure which models.

My problem is that If I have to go with the M6600, I will lose power and get a "better" graphic cards or stick with M6700 get "better" power and a decent graphic card.

I put better in quotation because I don't really know how much better the graphic card or the processors are over the other especially in doing CAD works.

Well if SolidWorks is anything like Adobe then it will shift everything possible onto the GPU as its better equipped to do little tasks quickly.

So it's down to comparing the GPUs and getting the most for you.
