I have an e6500 with a WXGA+ screen... just curious, if it were to get damaged and I needed to replace it, where could I get another screen? (Googling around, I see many different 15.4 WXGA+ screens for sale, but I have no idea how to tell if they are compatible with my laptop. For example: http://base.google.com/base/a/5652240/D18209847718113120386 )

I have a related question. I have the wxga 1280x800 ccfl backlight screen in my E6500. If I wanted to, could I replace it with a wxga+ led backlight screen?

I realize there is no inverter with the led backlight. Would it be possible to bypass the inverter and go right to the led screen with the cable?

Has anybody tried replacing a ccfl screen with a led screen?

You really can't do that. The CCFL screen housing is different (thicker, I believe) than the LED housing. It is possible to do it theoretically, but you would need a new bezel, a new lid (back of display housing), AND a new display. Ordering from Dell (directly), the back of the lid may run you about $100, the bezel $10, and I know displays (LED) that are 15.4" from them run at around $350. Quite an expensive upgrade.

I was told by screencountry.com that you'd need an entirely new motherboard.

Yeah, I believe this is the case as well. You may be able to make it work with parts from your CCFL display assembly, but you'll probably need to mod it and it won't fit together nicely. The lid and bezel are available on eBay for about $80 combined. That WXGA+ LED I linked costs $170. So it's not THAT expensive.

    That's very, very likely untrue.

If somebody with a E6500 wxga + led display could post a picture of the cable that connects from the mother board to the led display and post the output voltage on the end of the cable that connects to the display, then I could compare that to what I have. That way I would be able to tell with fair amount of certainty if this would work.

P.S. screencountry has the wxga+ led matte display for the E6500 for $129. I am really tempted to try this out.

I wonder what difference are there between LED backlight and usual CCFL backlight screens. Is it really so good that you are interested to replace ccfl screen with led screen in your laptop? please, tell us.

I am asking because I think to purchase dell latitude e6500 with ccfl type of screen (I prefer matte displays with dimensions like 1280x800, and screens with such dimension are only of ccfl type in this model of laptop, while LED backlight panels are having higher dimensions like 1440x900 and 1920x1200 pixels, which is less interesting for me) but if LED type is considerably better in terms of brightness, contrast, color depth and so on, then I would reconsider my purchase.
