    Dear all,

My vostro 1310 laptop is not properly working. When computer power is on, the ac adapter is not working and the computer is operating using battery. But when computer is shut down, the ac adapter is working and charging.

Pls help me, how can I changed my laptop setting?

    best regards,

If you start up the computer and then plug in the adapter does a message pop up with something to the effect of "incorrect charger, maybe not charge correctly"? If you adapter is only putting out 80W and your laptop sucks down 75W then it wont have enough juice left over to charge the battery. But when it's off, all the power is diverted to the battery so it can charge.

This happened to me when I was using a faulting docking station. The system refused to charge while in use because it thought I had the wrong adapter. Adapter worked fine. However since my problem was in the docking port relay, your problem might be internal...I hope you're still under warrenty. Replacing the motherboard is going to get expensive and repairing anything is going to be tricky. I suggest you try another adapter just in case it's your adapter for some reason.
