Hi my friends.. i'm searching for a new note.. and because i usually take a note for 5 years (my last and actual note is my tm803 by acer..).. i want to buy the last and the best performance laptop at the moment..

I looked for the m4400 in september.. but.. caused by other expenses.. i had to defer purchase..

Now.. with the new year.. and with money.. :p i need to buy it!!!

But.. the note is 6 month older.. isn't it??? there is the poxibility that a new refresh of this platform will be released soon?? with Blueray reader.. ddr3 ram.. rgb hd led display.. (in italy.. i can't configure it!!!! sigh..) the new intel core2 cpu P series.. (why can't use P9500 in precision??? i can configure it for latitude.. very strange...)

So.. i need to buy.. but i want the best that can buy.. 15-16 inches.. and.. DELL!! :p

    thanks a lot

    happy new year

The M4400 is only about three months old. Chances are you aren't going to see a refresh for another nine to ten months (mobile Core i7 probably).

They don't refresh the business models all that often, so it would be a good time to purchase this notebook.

Done. The forum software seems to have thrown a few glitches today.

I don't think we will see a major refresh of the M4400 until there is a new platform (chipset etc). However, Dell may quietly change the options. If there are already options available in North America or mentioned in the sales literature then you should phone Dell sales and see if they can configure you what you want (you can usually negotiate a discount as well). For example, the backlit keyboard option was originally available online for the E6400 but then disappeared, so it has to be ordered by phone.

It is also on (US) Large business section of Dell website, I prefer selecting laptop via this method because it usually has more options.

The next generation of business laptops will probably stem from the release of the Mobile Core i7 chips, which won't be coming for a while.

and i think they're not gonna call the mobile version of the i7 "i7".

they're giving it a different name right? also, business notebooks are not refreshed as fast as consumer ones. the m4400 came out in late august, so its still very new.

    taken from the dell website:

    Built for Business

The Dell Precision M4400 is compatible with a wide variety of Latitude E-Family docking systems and peripherals to help improve overall system management. Even better, it promises a low total cost of ownership with few technology refreshes - meaning reduced support costs.

For what it's worth, the refresh probably won't be Nehalem as it's a CPU, but Calpella since it's a platform. Since Calpella is to be released till Q3 2009, and if Dell takes as long refreshing the Latitudes/Precisions as it did with Montevina it'll be Christmas season before we see a refresh. (Baring set backs as with Montevina maybe this time next year.) Probably just in time for Windows 7 too.

It'll still be the Mobile Core i7 I think. Similar to how you have "Centrino" which is the platform standard and the actual processor is still called the Core-2.

Actually in the case of the M6400, it looked to me like Dell was waiting on the new graphics chips and not the processor. The M6400 came out just after the Quadro FX 2700m and 3700m became available right?

I would guess Dell is right now in the process of creating the new chassis design and defining the new look and feel, and when there is a new processor technology and a new GPU technology they will launch as soon as they get the components fit properly inside the case and tested working.
