I am planning to configure WXGA+, basic video card and a low end CPU, meaning I will not take any advantage of the High End configuration options for the Precision line, so it seems Latitude E6500 is a good option ??, from the outside they look exactly the same, based on the specs the build materials are the same as well, please E6500 and M4400 owners provide your feedback, thanks a lot

Physically, only the lid is different. The M4400 has a much more powerful workstation GPU, and higher-resolution screen options, I believe. It can also be configured with a quad-core processor. Other than that, there are pretty much no differences. If you're planning on configuring it with WXGA+, a basic video card and a low end CPU, there isn't any point getting he M4400 over the E6500.

I found the Precision tech support folks MUCH more competent than the Latitude folks. I normally don't have occasion to call tech support, but when I had a persistent problem that took about 4 months to resolve, my new Latitude ended up being upgraded to a Precision M4400, and thus talking to their support group... after which the problem was resolved in a week.

Another configuration difference: the M4400 doesn't allow you to configure an encrypted hard drive... but it works fine with one, so I don't know why they don't offer it.

for the configuration you're suggesting, the only difference is the GPU pretty much.

and yea, the precision support team is really very very good.

The lid is different, there are 3 buttons instead of 2 under the trackpad, and you can get higher end options on the M4400.

If you're going with a low-end configuration, the Latitude will be cheaper with same/similar specs. Basically, the Precision has a 3 button trackpad, different lid, and more powerful options, and marginally better support.

For your requirements, the E6500 is what you need.
