Depending on how you apply it, you might get up to a 2 degree difference. Since this is in the range of error, I don't really feel there is significant difference between thermal greases. Liquid metal based pastes are theoretically the best, 2nd is carbon (or marketed as diamond) based pastes, followed by metal (silver) based, and lastly is silicon based pastes. The difference in performance isn't worth the increase in price, so stick with a named brand (that uses quality materials) which is cheap (on special you can probably get AS5 or equivalent btw $4-8, I wouldn't pay in the double digits for a 3.5g or similar weight tube).

The only thing to consider is conductivity of the grease. If you are accident prone, consider getting a non-electrically conductive thermal grease (AS5 uses silver which is slightly electrically conductive).

... is the stuff you want. I've been using it for years now and am still on the original tub. Right after AS5 came out I tested it against my T44 on a half-dozen boxes and the T44 was consistently a degree C cooler under heavy load. The stuff lasts longer at peak performance as well as when I was using AS products I typically had to reapply every 4-5 months to keep it working well where as my machines are now replaced before I reapply T44.
