I think Sony also had problems on its vaio s 15" that has an ips panel...
They had some problems with red that appears orange !

it seems that manufacturers really have problems with IPS 15" panel !

so if you need an ips screen, prefer the m6700 : the ips rvb screen is very good and homogeneous

I too have a M4600 with the dreaded IPS corner-tint. I have not heard of any single M4600 or M4700 owner who doesn't have it.
To be honest I'm pissed with how Dell treats their customers when asked about the corner-tint - they deny the problem and make you get multiple panel exchanges. It's just ridiculous. They could just admit to the panel "being like that" and it's done. Because other than the small corner tint (which isn't that bad) it's nice.

I can't see the M4700 with the IPS as an option too - maybe it's just a stock shortage? It happened before. I could still configure a M4600 with the IPS panel though.
The other idea would be that someone in management at Dell pulled the plug on the IPS panel because there were too many exchanges happening. Bravo - finally. Maybe they get a revised version from LG soon with a fix? Or they are removing the IPS panel from the M4700 altogether

Well, nobody really "needs" an IPS screen, really, but it was definitely something I was willing to pay a little extra for on a smaller machine. This is actually forcing me to be more economical (cheaper) about the machine because I'm going to hook it up to multiple IPS monitors, anyway... I just hope that there's not some OTHER issue that the m4700 has that I haven't heard about yet... but I'll definitely be on higher alert now, and look out for any kind of defects that have been associated with the m4700... As I see it, I either get short changed by Lenovo, or get wallet-raped by HP... and a Macbook -pffft - I'd rather solder my eyes shut than ever give in to mac.. but I digress...

I quite disagree what you say, a bunch of people need an IPS panel : all the people who are working in areas where color accuracy and large color gamut is essential like video, photo editing etc.
Personnaly an IPS panel on my laptop is very important. As a photograph I don't want my photo looking one way on a screen and the other on paper... I As DSLR color gamut is now very large, the largest color gamut your screen has, the best it is.. I'm not the only one to think that, just have a look at all the people on the photo forums that are looking for a laptop with an IPS panel.
Of course you could have a wide gamut external screen and only an sRGB laptop, but you loose the portability... You could choose a MBP with retina (I've a lot of colleagues that are Apple lovers !) but the glossy screen is such a pity...
An M6700 (or M4700) is a bery good compromise regarding the gamut of the RGBLED screen, power and portability...

I've got an M6600 which has pretty major blue tint in the bottom right corner, and less bad orange tint in the bottom left. I've had 3 or 4 panels exchanged by dell and they've all had the same issue.

Have I just been REALLY unlucky, or was there a bad batch maybe?

Only the M6700 can be bought online with the IPS panel from Dell. All the other models (including the older M4600 and M6600) don't show the IPS as an available feature. It's been quite a while like that now.

When you say really bad corner tints: how bad? So, if you have your Win7 taskbar up: is it covering the corner tints?

    Hi guys

my IPS rgb panel is the

    LG Philips LP173WF3

I bought the x-rite colormunki photo. I would like to calibrate it. I believe i need to know the technical information about this panel, like luminosity, the high gamut achievable etc etc...
('cause I prefer to use a software like argyll+ dispcalgui ).

    Many thanks in advance
