What cable do I need to use the factory-provided DVD-r drive externally with a ESATA/USB3 cable?

    What cable do I need to use the factory-provided DVD-rw drive externally with a ESATA/USB3 cable?

    I thought I bought the right cable for this, but is perhaps the dell provided dvd-r a proprietary cable?

    My old bay now had a hard drive in it.

    An amazon.com or ebay link would be great if possible.

    It's not proprietary, what you're seeing is a standard SATA connector for a laptop optical drive which unfortunately differs from one for a hard drive. In your case, I'd just get an enclosure instead.

    Are you talking about using it externally without an enclosure? Otherwise, you're answering your own question. With the enclosure the connection is eSATA/USB 3.0 and those are the cables you will be using.
