Thanks for the recommendation, but I feel like I shouldnt have to do these things with a brand new laptop.
A brand new laptop with this much memory and a super fast processor should handle all of the above with ease.

Btw, connection manager isn't necessary for the Dell Wi-fi cards either. I just use Windows to manage my wireless.

I just noticed that my E6400 was running slowly and a bit unresponsive. A quick look at RMClock's monitoring page showed 798MHz CPU speed and 333MHz throttle. This surprised me since I am connected to the standard 90W PSU.

I then checked in Dell ControlPoint and it was still on the Dell max battery profile setting that I used yesterday while travelling. So I changed this to another profile but the CPU remained locked down to the minimum speed and throttled. I then enabled RMClock's performance on demand profile and this got the CPU running properly.

At the moment I don't know the cause of the throttling. Something can foul up and most likely it is the Dell ControlPoint (which appears to be able to block RMClock starting up with my preferred profile). My message to the OP is that if you are still seeing poor performance make sure that your CPU isn't throttled and can run at full speed. RMClock is here. I haven't seem this problem before. I installed BIOS A03 earlier today. Coincidence?

I agree you shouldn't have to do this on a new expensive laptop. But Dell has botched things up with the preloaded items on E6400's with XP downgrade rights (I can't speak about the Vista pre-loaded build). It's not uncommon for Dell to bundle crap you don't need. In this case, someone has come up with a few very crappy modules or at least misconfigured ones. Now you are here reading the advice from people like me and John Ratsey recommending the things you ought to be aware of. Don't tell _ME_ you shouldn't have to do things to fix your new laptop, tell Dell. But be glad you, unlike the majority of the people likely suffering the same performance issues, are here on this forum and can benefit from the suggestions on fixing the issues.

Quite frankly I'm not impressed with the entire DCP and I think QuickSet was doing a much better job. I haven't gone so far as to try installing QuickSet on an E-series, has anyone else?
