I'm having a few problems with the web cam software in my Dell Vostro 1700 laptop. When I run the web cam manager it displays video fine, but as soon as I start to record video it crashes, saying livecam.exe has stopped working. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it's still no good.

Any ideas? I've not used it for quite some time, so don't know how long it's been like it. Alternatively, are there any other good free apps that let you eaily record video on a web cam?

I also have Skype and MSN Messenger installed, but wouldn't have thougt they'd have done the damage (as it's only when I try to record that it crashes).

    Thanks!

What driver are you using? Try updating the webcam driver. I'm running 1.4.1.1011, 11/10/2007 and have no problems (I may have even got that via Windows Update if I remember rightly).

I'm using the same driver as you. It seems to be the software that's the problem, as the web cam works, it's only when I try to record that it crashes.

Do you know of any alternative software that will capture from a web cam?

Nah, it's definately the Dell software. I've installed a free program called Debut Video Capture and it's much better.
