I bought my Latitude 6430u new from the Dell Outlet back in June, so it was pre-configured. It came with the Dell 1601 Wireless/WiGig card which allows it to connect wirelessly to the Dell 5000 Wireless Dock....but I don't need or want the Wireless Dock, so the functionality is wasted.

Three times in the last two months, I have been unable to either establish a connection or (if I can connect) maintain a relilable connection for very long. This happened when I visited my cousin in LA, in the service waiting area at my Mazda dealer and at a local hospital. This was the first time I had ever tried to connect at these location since I got my 6430u. But I was always able to connect at these locations with 'Excellent' signal strength with my previous Latitude E6400 which had an Intel 5100 wireless card.

I know that the 6430u was also available with the Intel 6205 and 6300 wireless cards. The Bluetooth capability is also integrated into the Dell 1601, so I would also need the Dell 380 Bluetooth module in addition to the Intel WiFi hardware.

I keep debating whether this switch would resolve my problem, but I won't know unless I try....right?

Sure try it and return the Intel card in case it won't work any better. I got the Dell 1601 in my E7440 and Bluetooth, WiFi, and WiGig all work fine.
