Hi, I want to do a clean Windows 10 pro install on a latitude e6530. What's your experience with drivers? Can I use Windows update drivers and dell drivers only for the missing devices (probably only for the fingerprint reader)?

    Thanks!

I have had good luck on many systems using Dell software only when I have to. Fingerprint reader, touchpad (if Windows 10 doesn't recognize it as a "precision" touchpad), and the freefall sensor are the ones that I usually get from Dell if they do not come down through Windows Update. I also install Dell Power Manager so that I can set the fan profile.

Windows 10 is really good at getting drivers for everything else through Windows Update. Sometimes you can grab more up-to-date GPU drivers straight from the GPU company's website (Intel in your case I imagine). With Windows 10 anniversary update which just launched, I am having trouble with Microsoft's AHCI driver on a few systems (causing strange lock-up behavior) so I am also using the Intel Rapid Storage driver for that, which you can also get from Intel's site.

@Aaron44126, what are you using for the audio driver for Windows 10 on your M6700? Dell's site doesn't list one for Windows 10, nor does Windows Update offer a driver. I also had lockups with the Microsoft AHCI driver, and needed to install the Intel RST Driver to take care of it.

Try running Driver Identifier and see if it finds the driver you require. Once it has scanned your system, it will give you a list of outdated or missing drivers and direct links for them, from the manufacturers' websites. You can manually find download links to them, if you feel more comfortable. Win8.1 and Win7 drivers usually work fine, if Win10 drivers are not available.

For a long time for audio I have just been using the Microsoft driver. It shows up as "High Definition Audio Device" and you should be able to get it if you search for drivers and say "Let me pick from a list...". Never had any issues. (This is going back before Windows 10 --- With the "proper" driver I had strange things happen, like sometimes sound would still come out of the laptop speakers when I had headphones plugged in.)

Interesting. Thanks for the input. I used the Microsoft audio driver as well, but noticed it wouldn't automatically mute the built in mic when plugging in my headphones. When I use the IDT audio driver under Windows 7 Pro, everything gets muted / unmuted as expected.

Have you tried using the Windows 7 / 8.1 driver? I have not tried it for this case specifically, but normally Win7/8 drivers work fine on Windows 10.
