Hi all, looking to buy a basic laptop for mostly internet stuff, watching some movies, etc.
In the 15" models (2520), looks like there is about an $80 difference in the models with these processors, and the different processor appears to be the only diff.
Will the i3 be appreciably faster for anything?? Opening applications, web surfing, etc? Or is it a waste of money?

Also, I notice I can get a 15" Inspiron with an i3 for a about $30 cheaper than the vostro i3........but is the build quality of the inspiron lower than the vostro?

    Thanks!

For those basic tasks, you probably won't notice the difference between the Celeron and the i3.

The build quality of the Inspiron will be worse... but not by much.

The price difference I'm seeing on the Vostro 2520 is only $50 for the i3-2348M vs Celeron 1000M- LINK

In my opinion, the i3 is worth the extra $50. It has a max clock speed of 2.3GHz vs 1.8GHz for the Celeron. The i3 also has the benefit of Intel's Hyper-Threading technology. The other substantial difference is the version of Intel integrated graphics is different between the two processors. The i3's integrated GPU provides significantly better performance in most tests than the basic version that comes with the Celeron 1000M

Stick with the Vostro instead of the Inspiron. The Vostro's spill-resistant keyboard and reinforced steel hinges are worth it!
