So I'm painting the badge on the back of my Vostro 1500 and noticed that it's pretty easy to expose the magnesium under the finish... Would it be bad for my laptop (oxidation, backlight bleed, etc.) to sand off the finish selectively to "etch" some sort of design into it?

dunno, first impulse was to say no pr0bs but i would research the heck out of it first lol

if its just a light etch, depth wise, i think you'll be fine, just protect it asap with a clear coat or something

and remember to wipe with spirits before coating

our fingers leave oil that will rust/stain through any coating .....
