    Hi.
Sorry if this subject has been tackled before but i can't seem to find the answer i need.

    I have a Vostro 1700 with 2mp intergrated Webcam.
When my daughter uses Msn, she tries to use the Webcam but the mesage "Your camera is currently in use or unplugged" appears on her conversation screen.

I have checked the Device manager and it says the webcam is working properly ?

Any ideas what i need to do to get it up and running again ?
Is there a setting that needs altering ?
The Laptop recently froze and when it was restarted, the Vista program kicked in to fix any faults on start up.
Did this cause my problem ?

    Thanks for looking.

Is there a quick and simple way to check if it's working or if it's Msn ?

does the blue led light come on when you use your webcam? if not, the webcam seems to be unplugged (in back of the screen). Send it to Dell if you can (talk with a technician, etc.), if not, just buy an add on webcam.

    *UPDATE UPDATE*

I contacted Dell on a Friday, reguarding my unplugged Webcam.
Their Technician in India spent nearly an 1hour on the phone with me trying to sort it.It included him tacking control of my Vostro and installing New drivers, changing settings, reinstalling webcam manager etc.

    No joy.

So they arranged for a Dell Technician to visit me and install a new Webcam as they believed the current one was faulty.
He arrived on the Monday morning, installed a new one and reset the Drivers.
It failed to work.So he reinstalled the Manager.
    It failed to work.
So he had to reinstall Vista from the Recovery partition and YES it works.
He said it looked like an error in Vista had caused it to believe the Webcam was unplugged, when it wasn't.

So not only am i glad my Vostro is up and running again, i have to praise Dell's overall technical help and responses.
Only 4 days from contacting Dell to a positive result.

    Good job Done. :)
