After almost buying a 3550 I managed to grab myself a cheap used Vostro 3560.

Think it has a standard horrible 768p screen but not really sure. I want to upgrade to 900p.

What is the best quality 15.6" 1600x900 glossy panel available? I bought a Samsung panel a while back and hated it, this is why I ask.

Do I need a specific Dell part for it to work properly (like the earlier models with brightness issues) or will any panel with the right connector placement work?

You probably meant 1080p, since that's the only alternative for this model.

Anyway, these will all fit provided the connector is bottom-left; Panelook compare.

They usually are bottom-left nowadays (it's become the de facto standard), but you want to be certain before purchasing. There's one high-gamut display (95% NTSC) in the list, but it draws a little more power (11W vs. 8W) and 2 panels with higher contrast (600:1 vs. 500:1). Do mind that although the 768p and 1080p both use 40-pin connectors, some cables Dell used are 1-channel LVDS and others 2-channel. Your new purchase might posses the right cable (FHD is backward compatible with HD), but it might not, check this first. There's a label on it that says "FHD" or "HD", for 1080p you need the FHD cable.

I did notice 900p wasn't on the list. Which is odd - is there any reason theoretically why it wouldn't work, if a 1080p panel did? I'd rather avoid 1080p as I find the text too small. 900p is perfect for me.

Indeed the cable is another thing I need to check. Haven't got the laptop's service tag yet so can't view the configuration.

    Cheers

The only limitation is support of the specific resolution by the gpu (assuming everything else being equal). Since 1600x900 is common enough it's very likely to work. Using an advanced search it appears you have five options to choose from. Again provided the connector's location is bottom left (all have identical 40pin IPEX connectors, which is good). The N156O6-L02 seems to have the best specifications, cheaper than the 1080p screens as well.

Not sure if cable part nr. is included in the service tag list, that's rather detailed information. So it's likely you need to remove lcd to verify that. The 900p is 2-channel LVDS as well, so you do need the right cable (FHD).

The reason the 900p is not listed is simply that Dell didn't bother to offer that option. If you get it to work you might very well be the only Vostro 3560 owner with a 900p screen, so please post the result :) .

Update, am now about to purchase an LP156WD1-TLA2 and FHD cable. I decided against the N156O6 as the Chi Mei screen that's currently in there is utter turd, not just in resolution.

Will post back next week probs.

As promised - fitted FHD cable and LP156WD1-TLA2 today. Works an absolute treat! Wonderful screen!

Unfortunately there is one massive bright stuck pixel so I will need to exchange it, but apart from that it works great!

Nice  , the world's only 900p Vostro 3560 (probably).

And don't want to try fixing the stuck pixel yourself first? Saves a lot of hassle if it works.

Sure, but be aware of the fact that even Sharp makes awful screens too and Chi Mei good ones. It's just that both cater to different markets and budgets.
