I got a message the other day (see attachment) on rebooting my Vostro 3550 and have similar messages in windows itself quite regularly. Had the laptop since September 2011 yet these messages only started happening. The laptop was bought used but practically new with the remainder of the Dell warranty at the time (now expired). I'm assuming I've got a genuine power supply? I can't tell if it's 90W though (see other attachment). Assuming it's genuine, and I see no reason why it wouldn't be, particularly as the previous owner was under warranty, why would this message come up?

Ya, it's a genuine 90W adapter. They all look like a generic brick now. The fact that you're getting the message just means that something is breaking/broken in the adapter, power jack, and/or motherboard.

Thanks for the reply. Well I hope it's only the power supply breaking and not the motherboard or jack. Gotta be easier to replace the adapter.

Your power adapter is fine. This happens on Vostro 3x50 when you turn the system on when something is plugged into the left USB PowerShare port. Very annoying.

I only really use the USB 3.0 on the right side next to the minijacks. Don't recall having anything connected to the left USB.

I'll do a test though now that you mentioned it, and reboot with my phone connected to the usb, see if the message appears before getting into windows.

Oh well, couldn't get the message to appear after rebooting, and also shutting down and booting, in either USB ports.
