    Hello there,

I posted this on another topic, but I'm trying to get some insights into this topic:

I bricked my Dell Vostro 3550 trying an alternative firmware for other Vostro 3000 series notebook in hope to turn on/off the hybrid graphics card.

Anyway, sent it to repair (not Dell's, since the warranty has expired) and they said that replaced the BIOS chip. My Vostro 3550 now shows, in the post screen, as an Inspiron with a different Service tag.

So, before the brick, I backed up my original bios (with service tag) with AFUWINGUI.

Can I update or write my original backup over this new chip and make it show as Vostro and my original Service Tag again?

The firmware GUID is the same in both cases, but how can/should restore my original bios?

    Hi :)

i don't know exactly if you can have success with this tool, because the Tools are a little bit old, but it's the more easy way :

    https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...anging-service-asset-tag-software-here.19369/

Please read carefully all the topic. A very important information : the asset utility have an undocumented command : /S , with this one, you can normally change the service tag too.

But i read somewhere than the service tag can be changed only ONCE, when you change the motherboard and run it for the first time.

there's another solution, but it's a little bit harder : Bios edit, etc.... but it takes more time to do it.

Try this and leave me a feedback

    Regards :O)

Sorry about the long time, I've been traveling.

So I tried to update and it didn't work... Sort of...

The post screen appears, also it does try to boot the recovery bios method (holding END KEY and it tries to read from the pendrive). But I think I don't have the right name. Already tried that Andy's Tool, but no luck. Tried also Winery50, and nothing. Any ideias? My notebook is a Dell Vostro 3550.
