Hi. I am also thinking of get one of this and its going to be my first own money laptop after years of using a company one. I only have 1 question in regard to the lid. Can you open up the lid with 1 hand without the based jumping up?

    Thanks

No, you can't, You can open it about an inch (with a finger pushing up on the lid and nothing pushing down the base) then all the laptop lifts.
If you're worried about the overall robustness I can say it is one of the aspects that pleases me more of this Laptop.

Not recommended to buy vostro 3450. Many drawbacks. GPU AMD not fully funtioning like nvidia does. The control program always pop out and is very nuisance and you need eithr to cancel or completely shut it off. The USB 3 having problem to read with certain HDD brands. Card reader also cannot read several types of SD card whereby these HDD and SD can be accessed by other laptop manufacturers.
The optical drive is noisy when system tries to access and everytime system starts the windows.
Dell offer 2nd replacement, but still have the same problem (since they came from the same Chinese production batch , i think). Wasting your time dealing with this model. Totally not recommended.

^ gotta totally disagree with this guy. Got my 3450 and it is rock solid and no problems with any ports or the optical drive on the system
