I believe I have narrowed down my laptop purchase to the Vostro 2510. I would really like a backlit keyboard, but I have been receiving mixed messages as to whether or not the 2510 includes that option. Since it's not mentioned anywhere on the Dell website, I am assuming the worst. I saw this website saying otherwise: http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/dell-vostro-2510-laptop (bottom of the page under "built in extras"). Can someone please clarify? If it does come with the 2510, it must be standard since it is not an option while customizing. Why would they not offer this on all of their models?

It would also be helpful to know what kind of battery life (in hours, please) I can expect from a 6-cell or 9-cell battery. All I can find is "good battery life", which is clearly subjective.

Specs are below. If this does not have the backlit option, can anyone recommend a similar laptop for under $800 that does include such a keyboard? These specs are essentially my minimum requirements...looks like a great price at $720.

    -Intel Core 2 Due 2.0 Ghz, 2MB L2 cache, 800 Mhz FSB
    -WXGA+ LCD Display
    -4 GB Ram
    -256 MB discrete video card
-320 GB hard drive 5400 RPM
    -Bluetooth
    -Webcam
-Fingerprint reader (not entirely necessary, especially if has face recognition)

    Thanks for your help!

Fairly certain it doesn't have a backlit keyboard. It should be functionally identical to the Vostro 1510, which also doesn't have a backlit keyboard, and no option for one. On that note, similarly configured 2510s and 1510s should have similar battery lives: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4444. That's with an IGP; you'll probably get a bit under three hours with your configuration.

You can also get an E6500 from the Outlet (that'll probably be cheaper than $800 with a backlit keyboard, but you'll have to search long and hard for it).

the only way to get a backlighted keyboard for the 2510 is to use cold cathode tape to light the keyboard. But i think you would have a wire it to the motherboard unless you can find a usb or esata version online.
