    Hi
I would like to install a second hard drive on my v1710. I have spent weeks looking for information on the Internet but found nothing! I have sent Dell emails asking them if they could supply the caddy and parts (I have the drive) but have never received a reply. Has any one on this forum any idea where I can get the parts? I have found out that the second drive caddy is different to the main caddy. I find it hard to believe that no one has had this problem before. I guess most people who have purchased this PC do not realise a second hard dive is (possibly) an option. Hope someone here can help. Thanks in anticipation.

I have left this post for over 2 months and 1 reply (yes rang, did not know anything about it!!) I guess it is a lost cause, got provision for 2 drives but not possible. I find this hard to believe. All that is really needed is the cable the caddy can be made. Someone out there must have an answer?

I guess you want to have the second hard drive mounted in the computer like the primary hard drive? That is probably hard to achieve given the nonstandard optical drive bay of Vostro 1710. Having a second drive external to the laptop is of course a different thing and very easy to accomplish with either a USB or Firewire drive enclosure or an eSATA card and an eSATA drive enclosure.
