I have a Vostro 1700 with an X3100 GMA. I had the original Dell version of Vista home premium installed, but then killed it off and installed a clean copy of vista using the laptop's personal product key. I downloaded all of the drivers off the Dell site for chipset, video, peripherals, etc. I've tried the latest Intel GMA drivers from the Dell site and from Intel's site, but I've tried playing Team Fortress Classic and Unreal Tournament (10 year old one) and they freeze after 2-3 minutes into a game forcing a cold reboot.

I noticed when I ran TFC in windowed mode that when it froze, I was able to move the mouse out into the desktop, switching to the desktop, and then TFC unfroze itself and I just clicked back in. The freeze happened again about 30-60 seconds later, though. Windows is updated. Is this just one of the woes of someone trying to run a vanilla copy of Vista? Was there actually a listing of drivers for someone who was doing something like this that I might've missed? I just got the applicable downloads from Dell's site until Device manager stopped complaining.

P.S. 1.6ghz core 2 duo w/ GMA x3100 is not fun for gaming. I can run Quake 3? *shakes head*
