I am desperately lost and would be most grateful for some technical help please. This may be as simple as changing a value in the registry, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I apologise in advance for my probable incompetence in not providing enough information.

I have a Dell Vostro 1540 64 bit machine running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I have updated and am up to date with the latest drivers (etc.) from the Dell website and am up to date with Microsoft updates.

The problem became apparent because I have a friend who lives in a remote area of Scotland and is a mile beyond the broadband limit, so can only get dial-up internet. I have been given a massive list of YouTube videos (many up to two hours long) which I have downloaded, all of which work from my computer and am ready to put them in the post on an SD card or a USb stick. Total 34 Gb, so I am trying to use 64Gb devices. It doesn't matter if they work from the storage device the other end as they can be copied to a computer.before use, so device speed is irrelevant.

I bought several 64Gb Micro SD cards from different sources and a 64Gb USB stick from Tesco. However, ALL of the devices display the same problem.

Despite apparently successfully formatting them to the full size (exFAT, whatever that means), none of the devices work beyond about 4Gb. The items are shown in the directory, but won't read.

I also tried zipping the entire 34Gb which copied on my own computer and successfully unzipped and worked, but again when copying to the cards and copying back, stated that the copy was successful but in fact was corrupt.

Finally, I used TERACOPY to copy and verify and consistently achieved the results shown below (on ALL devices including the USB stick). Please note that copying items in a different order resulted in the first 4Gb successfully copying but the remainder failing.

One other point is that the directories sometimes show as empty and sometimes show the list of titles, always NONE or ALL - never just some, regardless of how many actually work.

The PROPERTIES of the failed or corrupted folders on the device also show the full 34Gb as being present on the device, matching the size of the folder on the computer.

So you see, I have done all I can do as a non-technical person to try different options but have miserably failed. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Is this a hardware or software problem please? I'm at my wits end on this one after over a week of trying everything.

Thank you in anticipation and I hope you don't mind me obscuring the titles below.

    Chris.

Having you tried copying more than 4GB of files to the drivers from other computers?
