    Hi,
All my dells up to now allowed me to scroll automatically from the top of a webpage to the bottom by quickly dragging my finger down on the left side and if I let go it would continue going by itself.
With my vostro 1510, I cannot do this anymore.

There seems to be no option in the setup for this.

Any ideas how I can get this back?

    Thanks.

You'll need to d/l an older version of Alps drivers from Dell (take a look at some of the older discontinued machines) or from a different manufacturer like HP or Toshiba. Make sure you uninstall the old drivers before you install the new ones. One thing to keep in mind is that some Dells use Synaptics touchpads which IMHO are much better than Alps. If you previously had a Synaptics pad you'll be let down by the performance of the Alps touchpad even with non-Dell drivers.

    Thanks.
Yes, I find the performance marginal.
However, it would be ok if I could scroll automatically.

Do you have any suggestions on which driver to try? I don't want to screw it up.

    Regards,

I have a 1310 with an alps touchpad. I hate it compared to my old synaptic one. The features on it are abysmal, and the precision in general is poor.

I don't mind the alps with the exception that I can't automatically scoll down a page by dragging my finger down the right side, if you know what I mean.
If anyone has an alps touchpad and can do this, please let me know.

    Thanks.

I have a 1510, I can scroll up and down when I slide my fingers to the right edge.

You are probably missing the touchpad driver, I suggest you download it from the Dell site and the feature should be enabled. Just get the latest one, I think theres only 1 at the moment.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,
    Thanks Tricks.
I can scroll up and down but what I'm after is if I quickly slide my finger on the right side up or down, with my other Dell, I can get the web page to scroll by itself after quickly lifting my finger off or manually go up or down. I can manually go up or down like you say you can but I cant get it to scroll to the bottom of the page quickly like I can with my other Dell.

    Regards,

    LIP

The End key goes all the way down. I find the Home, Page Up, Page Down, and End keys to be far more useful than scrolling. If only my hand wasn't already placed on the mouse.

It's also not just about being at the bottom. With synaptic it will scroll to the bottom on it's own if you move it quickly, but you can interupt the scroll by touching the side at any point in mid scroll. So getting anywhere in the document is easy.

Alps you have to move your finger every step of the way to get anywhere other than the top or bottom. Page up and down are okay, but the flow of being able to actually use your computer with the touchpad that the synaptic pad has is taken away. Not to mention that those buttons are usually in weird spots on a laptop.
