    Hi there,

I have a Vostro 1500 with Windows xp home legit. I lost the xp cd somewhere or other and manage to corrupt system files through some un-careful registry modding and am now getting the blue screen on boot up.

I need to run a windows repair, but here is my question:

If a burn an OEM XP Home SP2 disk from iso, would it work and let me run the repair? Or do I need the original disk the computer came with? I'm not sure if it'll run some crazy BIOS check or something.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

To answer your question, yes ! That's if you just want to run repair only. If you need to install the OS again then yes you will have issues as the Dell OEM Discs does a BIOS check on install. That's why it doesn't ask for the 25 digit key.

My suggestion is to call Dell and give them your Service Tag and they'll send you another disc. You can also use this link to order another factory disc.
