I am looking at upgrading the memory in my Vosto 1500. It currently has 667mhz memory in it (came with the laptop). My processor is a T7100, a 800mhz processor. If I get 800mhz memory, will it recognize it and run it at 800mhz?

Also, while I am here, has anyone upgraded to a SSD drive in place of the stock HDD? Will the bios accept it? Laptop was purchased in 2007, and I am on the original A01 bios.

Finally, I was looking at upgrading to Windows 7. I downloaded the Win7 tool that analyzes your system and tells you what you need etc. It said my video card would not support Aero. I have a Nvidia 8600M GT with 256MB of RAM. Cant imagine that it wont work? Anyone know why?

    Thanks!

    Jim

...Don't know about your first two questions, but as for the third one, you're okay because I'm running Win7 Aero on my 1500 with just an 8400m GS.

You can use 800MHz memory... but it'll run at 667MHz. The 965 chipset doesn't support 800MHz memory. Nonetheless, everything else held constant, you won't notice any difference between 667MHz and 800MHz memory.

You can use any 2.5" SATA SSD in your laptop. Buy an Intel or an Indilinx drive and/or stay away from JMicron drives.

Finally, the 8600M GT will run aero fine. The Windows 7 adviser is wrong.

Gracias amigos. I did go ahead and get the 4GB of PC5300.

I am going to wait on the SSD for now. I will get it. I am going to see if the prices will moderate and how TRIM ends up affecting real world performance.

    Downloading Windows 7 now :)
