Hi there, just picked up a Vostro 1500 off someone, mint condition, nice price, and very happy so far.

I have a problem with the touchpad. I reformatted and installed vista 32 ultimate, installed a few apps and what not, and all of a sudden my touchpad started jumping all over. At random points it will spaz across the screen. I installed/uninstalled the actual touchpad driver off Dell's site and no luck.

    Specs:
    T5270 (i think) 1.4ghz
    2gb 667
    15.4 wxga
    8600m gt
    120gb hdd
    etc

ps. i heard issues with the 8600m chip, how do i check?
pss. these vostros cannot run xp/vista 64 bit, correct?

    Thanks for any help

Dell does not support Vista 64 bit on the Vostro 1500. I have no idea why? All the hardware is x64 bit compatible.

A few weeks ago I switched my Vostro 1500 to Vista 64 bit and the Vostro is rock solid. It took a little hunting to find all the drivers. But with a little searching you find them.

All the hardware should be 64 bit compatible. If its a 2008 model, there is no reason why the hardware shouldnt be

I have a friend who has a Vostro 1500 and wants to disable the touchpad all together. I have no visual of the laptop and was wondering if someone could tell me how to delete the drivers, or is there an option under Control Panel > Mouse? Thanks for your help.

Tell you friend to go to the "Dell Support" website, selection vostro 1500, and get their touchpad driver. *Step 2: Once installed, double click the tray icon to bring up the option menu. Click on "Device Select", there you can disable Touch Pad, Touch Pad Button or have the option to only have touch pad automatically disabled if an external mouse is connected.

P.S. If he already has the driver installed on his vostro then just follow *step 2.
