So I just purchased a Vostro 1500 and am LOVING IT! Except that when I do large projects on Pro-E it tends to run 'more hot' than usual. My question is... I sometimes work on these large projects for large periods of time... 4-5 hours straight, should I take more breaks to allow it to cool back down or shouldn't I worry?

Also any other suggestions for helping keep it cool? (For right now it sits on my desk)

Had the same problem. Now it always sit on a "Laptop Cooler". Mine has 3 fans powered by USB port. Picked it up for $15, now the internal fan rarely turn on.

Don't be too worried about the heating up issue. most of the Vostros have this tendency, the metal chassis tends to heat up quickly, but its not very likely it will burn up as longs as the vents are not being suffocated. My Vostro heats up pretty hot, but i think you will be fine.

I hope this is any help

So I tested out the temperatures when I'm just running Windows XP and no other programs running and this is what I get.

    Value
    ACPI Temperature: 49C
    Core 1: 47C
    Core 2: 48C
    GPU Core: 47C
    HDD: 40C

And then with it running Combat Arms for 2 mins at the server screen....

    Value
    ACPI Temperature: 67C
    Core 1: 66C
    Core 2: 63C
    GPU Core: 52C
    HDD: 40C

    Is this normal/expected?

Those temps are quite a bit lower than normal. If you want extra cooling I recommend undervolting (search "undervolting guide") and for a cooler I HIGHLY recommend a Zalman NC2000 for the Vostro 1500.
