    Hi,

My trusty Vostro 1500 is showing its age in the GPU front. The 8400m gs 128mb ddr2 that it came with is not cutting it for me anymore and I found some apparently compatible 8600m gt cards on ebay.

from what I know, the 8400m gs inside currently uses an MXM II slot, so this should be compatible, but i'm not 100%

anyone wiser than me willing to help out?

p.s. I considered a new laptop, especially lighter 14 inchers, but i'm not sure of the value of spending $900 just for something a bit lighter with a much better GPU at lower resolution (1366x768 ).

If I can get an 8600 in this bad boy, i could hold off for another 6-8 months when usb 3.0, i7 cpus, WXGA+, GDDR5 gpus became standard for 5lb 14"... or am i dreaming?
