My Girlfriend currently has a Vostro 1500 which I recommend she upgrade to the nvidia 8600 for the GPU. This was before i had read about the issues with the nVidia chips and them killing the mobo.

What im trying to figure out is are the 1500 and 1510 BIOS compatable because whiel she has the GPU that has the issues the 1500 is not listed on Dells blog as being one of the problem laptops.

My initial thought was they are the same but i want to seek clarification before i start telling her to flash a possible incompatible BIOS.

It won't let you flash a different model bios unless you know the force flash command line instruction to do so.

The Vostro 1500 I had,had very low maximum GPU temps [low 60's] and is probably not a big enough variation from idle temps to cause the substrate problems that have been seen in some model notebooks, and is probably why you don't see it listed as a possible problem model.

So,I wouldn't even be worrying about it,let alone trying to force a different model bios and possibly bricking the notebook.
