Vostro 1500 display problems

I have a Vostro 1500 laptop with XP Home edition with the
Nvidia 8400 GEForce GS card installed. For a while now when I turn on the computer maybe every 5th time, the display changes resolution, or the icons have moved around on the desktop, or its telling me the computer is set to a low color or resolution (which its not). Does anyone have any ideas what I can check or do? Anyone else have this problem with this model?
